pembroke pea coat

hi im from australia i own a 42r sterlingwear of boston peacoat genuine navy issue and are interested in purchasing a 1968 pembroke pea coat navy issue this coat is a 40r the measurement for this coat are the same as for my sterlingwear 42r .Does anyone have a pembroke coat and is there size more generous in the cut of the coat than the sterlingwear one .the pembroke 40r appears to be same size as the sterlingwear 42r thanks for any replies regards damian

I have a Pembroke, and I think it is a 1968 model. Pembroke is an issue coat. It is also a vintage model. It is a good peacoat.

If you haven't read the Peacoat dating stickie at the top of the Outerwear Section, you need to read it. Also, at the end of the article, just under the last picture, there is information on peacoat sizing. Read that and if you still have a question, post it here.

Don't consider the size of the Sterlingwear and how it fits. That is a non issue modern peacoat. It is sized differently. Be concerned with your actual chest measurement. If you measure 42" you will probably need a size 42 vintage peacoat. Like I said, read the section on sizing and see if that answers your questions.

thanks for your reply i have read your dating post it is excellent the reason i had a query was that the seller measured the coat chest measurement the way you described in your dating article and he came up with the chest measurement as 22 inches double and it is 44 inches i would have thought that the chest measurement for a 40 r coat would about 21 inches and then double that for a total of 42 inches the seller has remeasured the chest size and still comes up with the 44 inches i thought the early coat might be a bit looser fitting than a modern one my sterlingwear coat is is a dscp issued navy coat or do you believe that this is wrong thanks for your help damian

Sounds like the coat you are interested in will fit like a 42. If your chest measures 40", and you normally wear a size 40 suit, then the size 42 Pembroke will probably be too big for you.

There will be other peacoats available as the season wears on. But isn't it just becoming Spring for you guys down there? I guess if you want a US Navy peacoat, you have to buy during our Winter months when the sellers have the coats listed for sale.

yes we are in the middle of spring down here in australia with regards to navy issue modern coats are they all the ones with the dscp logo on them and just wondering with the modern coats does anyone know how many companies and which ones are supplying the navy with these coats at this time. i went ahead and purchased the 1968 coat and eagerly await its arrival in a couple of weeks ,unfortunately down here most australians are unaware of what a fantastic coat the navy issue peacoat is and just buy cheap made in china peacoats for double the price,which you could actually shoot a pea thru and are not water resistant in any way.

Sterlingwear is the only company currently supplying peacoats to the Navy. It is a quality contractor and has been for a number of years. I have at least one of their coats manufactured under the Vi Mil (Viking Military) label back in the 70s, I believe.

I am sure you will find a big difference in the fabric of the 1968 Pembroke compared to the DSCP (Defense Supply Center Philadelphia) peacoat.
