Feltfan That is a beauty. I love the rear bow. You don't see many of those today.

Marc, yes, I also noted the similarity to the Lock logo.
No idea what's up with that.

Douglas, I wouldn't want too many with the rear bow,
but it's a nice touch. I can't date this hat, and the bow
doesn't appear to help. I do have a Mallory I'm confident is
from the 50s that has the rear bow, but I think they were
(marginally) in fashion at other times, too.

I have only seen one other Willoughby hat, on an auction
listing on eBay (this one did not come from eBay). Oddly,
it was identical to mine- same size, color, and style. I almost
bought it... Anyone have another?

Hey! Much better. What did you do? Actually, that
looks a bit better than the hat itself!

Hm, but I fear we're hijacking Douglas' thread here.

Then again, I was hoping Marc would post his velour hat
for comparison purposes.

Here's mine, the one that says "velour finish" on the sweatband. It was made by Scott & Co.

That's a nice hat, too. Very nice. Thanks for posting!
Interesting that yours is made by an English company.
Could be an English use (perhaps of the time) of the
word "velour".

If there's one thing that's inconsistent in the old days of hats, it's names for details and finishes.

Case in point: Cavanagh edge ... artistic edge .... guild edge ... mode edge ... etc. All are terms for what is essentially the same thing.

You'll probably get the ladies asking to pet your hat. :D

From the off-head pictures I thought it would look kinda pimpy on. But it doesn't, it does look "rich".

Beautiful hat. It seems to be sitting right to me, I'd keep it.
