Just curious...how many of us at the Lounge plan our daily schedules with good old fashioned pen & paper organizers versus the hi-tech digital accessories? Feel free to voice your opinions on each.

My preference is for the pen & paper organizer. I've used the digital stuff without any significant technological challenges, but there's just something about the feel of a leather planner and a fine quality pen. Plus, for me they're just easier to use.

I prefer paper and pen. For years now I have been a devotee of The Dodo Pad diary/organiser. I swear, I could never live without it now ..

I had a PDA but always forgot to use it, even when I kept it in the same briefcase pocket as my Filofax! I tend to use pen and paper for notes and the calendar on my mobile for dates...when I remember to transfer them! lol

I have a tendency to put pen and paper down then not remember where I put it, or write on scraps of paper then chuck them by mistake. So digital if I ever actually want to remember/get stuff done.

That and I'm a gadget freak.

Nothing like a leather planner and a pen. It's always there. Fits in your briefcase or pocket. Simple.
Just the thought of learning a new palmplanner and the problems with linking it up to my PC and to my cellphone....yes I know it can be done!!!! I jst don't care!!!!!

The only technology gizmo I've ever carried is a calculator -- and that's only because I'm really awful at math. I jot notes on the backs of old receipts, business cards, and miscellaneous scraps of paper -- but most information, I just carry in my head!

I had a Palm for a while but the thing was just too much work for what I got out of it. It just seemed like another hobby I didn't have time for, updating, synching, downloading etc. The Molskine Calendar is much more user friendly, and I can doodle too!:)

I have a Palm Treo phone. I often post to the Lounge from it.

I got the habit in the early 90s from a fellow musician who owned both a 1922 Conn C melody saxophone and a Rolodex 64k address book. Now that's vintage. :eusa_doh:

I'm with Girl Friday--I find it very satisfying to take a pen and cross off items on my to-do lists.

Early in my career I used various flavors of Palm PDA, but I switched to paper a while back. One reason that I switched is that I could never come up with a good way to archive my calendars. From time-to-time I like to go back and browse through old planners just to see what I was doing at various times in the past. That's easy to do with paper planners, but rather more difficult to do with the electronic variety.

And don't even get me started on "handwriting recognition" software!

I have a big month calendar where I jot out all my stuff (not wall big, but paper size big).

I did use my computer for a while, but the instant visual of seeing the month works better and faster for me.

I mix. I've taken to carrying a moleskine pocket cahier everywhere, so I can make notes about appointments and such. Then the next time I'm online, I put the appointments into my Yahoo! calendar. I have it set up to send reminder messages to my cell phone before the appointment so I don't forget. Then Yahoo! synchronizes with Outlook, which synchs with my PDA.
Phone numbers and addresses get written down, then go into either Outlook or my PDA and get synchronized later.

My cell phone is always with me (that's why I got the smallest one I could), so even if I don't have my PDA with me I still get the reminder.

:eek:fftopic: The cahier is also useful for other notes, like patient histories and vital signs when I'm on an ambulance, or when I hear a good song on the radio.

Moleskine and fountain pen for me. The only high-tech items in my life are:
2 laptops. One for going online and communitcating with the ladies and gentlemen here and the second one for watching DVDs.

1 cellphone. I have an extreme dislike of these things, but I have to have one for work. It stays in my coat pocket unused as much as possible. I find it rather embarrassing to use in public. I hope I never become comfortable with it!

I had a palm organizer once, couldn't stand it. I prefer pencil and paper, prefer to mark my appointments on a big calendar. I carry a list to the supermarket and cross off the item once I get it.

My mother had a cellphone I gave her, but gave it up because she could not handle all the stuff on it.

I use a laptop, have a cellphone, which I use only for calling and receiving calls, and am now trying to figure out how to use my new digital camera.

I wish they would just make simple things -- I don't need a camera on my cellphone, or have it play tunes, or games, or take my blood pressure, or whatever.

I wonder if the techie manufacturers realize there is a market for people who want simple devises. Sometimes I think they keep making things to amuse teenagers.

About 30% of my browsing here is done on my PDA. It is my nightlight in the morning to help me get dressed and not wake up Mrs. MK. Most nights I play a game freecell or bubble breaker before falling asleep.

I am addicted to my PDA.
