Partially Shot Schott... What Would You Do?

One of my older Schott's is nearing that phase where it needs some attention. I have no skills with a needle and thread and doubt that I'll ever change that. I went by my favorite leather shop and they said new liners start at somewhere around $180 IIRC and that zip choices could be half as much, depending.

I've spent some time in this jacket and truth be told I'm not a tea core guy or the kind of character that sees value in the natural indications of time well spent which is a nice way of saying that if I put another couple three hundred bucks into this jacket I'd have spent it making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

It's still a really comfy jacket though. Far too comfy to take to Good Will only to have some goofball pick it up for a buck or two and seriously trash it. So my question is, what can I do to inexpensively make this jacket one I want to keep in the pile?

My guess is that the existing zipper can be sewn back in, the liner can be shortened and re-sewn at the hem, etc. Have you had work like that done and been happy w/ the jacket for a few more years?

What do you do when your jackets have given you most of what they have and the time comes for a decision? Is it a short visit at the clinic or are we talking hospice here? Pocket zips and pocket liners are nice, liner zips in perfectly, etc.

The pics...

Second pic looks black but is not.

This jacket is a dark brown with seams and wear areas that are a lighter shade of brown.

Size is irrelevant in this context but just to toss it out there, the jacket is a size 46.

Friend, That is an easy repair. Just follow the existing holes. Use the "leap frog" sewing method and you are golden. Not hard at all. Use Tex 90. If you do not have any, I will send you Tex 90 and 105 for the repair. Here is a simple and clear instructions time at 2:55 the important parts begin.
I will help you if you need further instructions.

@photo2u yours is a very kind offer and I appreciate your thoughtfulness very much. Another member of this forum has reached out and has sewing experience. Assuming he’s still interested I will gift him the jacket and it can have another (new) life in another country.

I have two ‘new to me’ jackets en route and a wife that is tolerant of my interests but I don’t want to test that too hard.

It is his kindness that brought a new package to my door recently.

I sent him my old Schott and thought it was very cool that he not only had the skills necessary to give the jacket the attention it needed but truth be told I thought it was also special that my old jacket might be enjoyed for the next few decades running around in France.

I sent the jacket to Mysteryo and thought that was the end of it. I was impressed when later he posted a pic of my jacket being updated on the other side of the planet and more so that it seemed to fit him so well. All was right and this was a better outcome than I could've hoped for.

Or so I thought.

Ten days or so back I went to my post office and there was something I needed to sign for at the front counter. When the postwoman brought the carton to the counter I noticed as she was finishing her paperwork that it was from 5000 miles away. France. I immediately thought of Mysteryo.

For ten days I've been wearing a jacket that he likely worked on and it fits like a glove. Genuinely like I bought it fitted to my specs.

In many years of enjoying leather jackets there's one style that I've never worn and wasn't sure I could pull off; the cross zip. In that box was an old Vanson cross zip. Thick, soft and well aged, it not only felt great on but to my surprise it looked right, too.

I've been wearing if for several days and I love it.

Mysteryo, thank you very much. Yours was a very kind gesture and knowing that it came from you and the story behind it makes this a very special jacket to me.

Not only does it fit curiously well but it also has something I very much like and is meant in the best way possible. That is indications of a prior relationship that only time and activity can provide. Like an older vehicle that's been freakishly well maintained It works perfectly and has an experienced appearance and feel that cannot be bought. I absolutely love the jacket and very much appreciate your kind gesture, Mysteryo.

I will wear it in your honor for many years to come!

Merci beaucoup mon ami.

Thanks for your kind words, my friend
I think any good people here would have done the same.
You trusted me to repair your jacket and then offered it to me!
Exchanging things isnt only about being in equity, its also a way of communicating and connecting.
I now know I have a friend in Alaska, that im very proud of!
