Speaking as a guy with ten thumbs, it's not too hard to cut a ribbon loose,
rotate it a bit, and tack it back down, is it? Not that I've succeeded yet myself,
but as hat making tasks go, it seems like one of the easiest.

That's a nice panama hat.

If you look at the pictures closely, you'll likely notice other problems with the ribbon besides its position; it's loose and puckering at about the 2:00 o'clock position in the second picture. I'd guess it would be hard for a complete novice to get a tight, smooth, properly positioned ribbon. But the hat's owner only has his time to lose by trying.

Yep, that's why she's going to take some classes. I certainly am clear on the website that each step up and you get a better hat. USA block, you get the best. In house, you get the best we can do.

Anyone else want to pile on? It's a real Montecristi for under $100.00, if I'm thinking of the correct hat.

I think I'll stick to 20% discount and only USA blocked hats if anyone mentions that they're a lounge member.

Going to Ecuador in mid-July, so happy to take orders of unfinished hats.
Nice hat by Black.

Couldn't issues like this be avoided with a thorough inspection of the hat before the seller/vendor ships it?...
It seems a tad careless to ship something that sloppy looking whether blocked here or elsewhere or sewn by a hatter or not. Unless of course the seller doesn't physically have the hats nearby.

Yes, sloppy. That's why she's taking classes. You can only beg and plead so much. What else do you want me to say? Have the hat blocked in the USA by a master hatter.

Just bought this treasure from Panama Bob. As you all have noted the ribbon which came with it was poor. but what do you want for $40? I spent a few hours on it last night with some grossgrain ribbon and some thread and this is the result:

Now I am not suggesting that anyone could get this result but it is easier than you think if you are willing to put some time in. I was able to achieve this result without a hat block but a hat block would have made things much easier once I had the bottom of the ribbon stitched to the hat. The ribbon you see is a rather inexpensive polyester grossgrain obtained from a local fabric store. If I were to do it again I would likely use silk grossgrain ribbon which tends to form a little better.

Sorry! I beg members here to buy USA blocked hats. Some sneak attacks happen, meaning that I don't know they are members here. As I say on the website, you can't beat the USA blocks/finishes....and you can't change Ecuadorians (sorry any Ecuadorians out there, but you know what I mean).

Bob ... Sorry ... Hats are your specialty ... Increadable hats at great prices ... Ribbons on the other hand are not .... But it's not a big deal I certainly didn't mean for you to take offense!!! I am certainly satisfied with mine and for a very low cost Art (who clearly does incredible ribbon work) made it as perfect a hat as I could ever expect to own!! When I decide to another Monte I will again turn to you for it and wont think twice about it!!!! Take a look for yourself great machine block/sweat from ecudor and great ribbon work by Art!!! I wear it every day in the summer for two years almost and I love it!

Not that big a deal. I've already sent it off to Art. Only trouble is paying for the same work twice.

I'm glad your wife is improving her talents, that's always a good thing. It really shouldn't matter if someone is from the forum or not, always do/sell your best. Then there's no worries!

Hmm... it's just odd that you'd ship a sloppy looking hat to a customer. What if said client wasn't a lounger? I don't want to start anything as we (I) tend to get a bit heated when panama hats take this direction. If it was me I would have told my wife to do it over or at least re-stitch the thing a few centimeters back. Or I'd put a note on my website saying that hats blocked in house might be a bit sloppy so the client knows what to expect.
But I digress from the thread and apologize for that. Let's go back to it saying that that BBB short brim looks awesome!

If you did not want to heat things up, why did you post this type of reply?
