Maybe next time you could spread the wealth?!
What's he supposed to do? Send it to you?
Sent directly from my mind to yours.

Funny you should say that. With the exception of it being a 2 1/2” brim and a bit dirty it is the same Panama as my other. So I thought I could offer this to one of my fedora brothers/sisters. But then I realized I could just send this out and have it cleaned, reblocked, and get a new ribbon in a different color. Then it’s a really different hat in looks. So anyway, the second idea won out. But I did have serious thought about using it for trade bait. There a a few fedoras out there that would cause serious thought for trade. As it stands right now, I believe I will be sending it to Art Fawcett to do his magic.Maybe next time you could spread the wealth?!
Well now...Art is a great person to do straw or panama hat work for sure. Not all hatters work with panama or straw, and I am betting Art knows a lot of that as he makes Milan hats and does those "duplex" hats with half straw half fur felt...and those hats are really "purty"!Funny you should say that. Good for you, Bill. I have 4 Panama hats, 3 from Cuenca and one semi-calado from Montecristi. They are all different in their own way... just as my felt hats are all unique.Funny you should say that. So I made an offer of $250 which was accepted. How did I do?

Yes I took it for a joke. But with 28 Panama hats YOU may want to think about spreading the wealth. Especially with another 58 like me!I was just kidding. BUT I do have 28 panama hats that I collected over the years, especially from Panama Bob (remember him??). Seriously though, I am a size 58...

Hi Hat Folks
Complete newbie here.
Thought I would come up for air from the leather jacket rabbit hole to see if there were other rabbit holes to go down. Would appreciate any advice.
Looking for an Ecuador straw. I am 6’-1’ 200 lb., and don’t want a stingy brim, or anything too wide and tall either. As I mentioned I am a newbie to hats. Bought a carbon grey Akubra Stylemaster size 60 starter fedora last winter that I am pretty happy with:

Also, just ordered an Akubra Capricorn from Everything Australian, as I tend to be pretty rough on hats, and like to travel with a backpack in rainy tropical climates:

Love the Brent Black Montecristi Bill. Gonna plug that into the bay for a while see if anything pops up in a 7-1/2.
Just left a similar message with Art at VS, see what he comes up with.
Love all the shared knowledge.
Peace
Can't count very well from your pictures, but that looks close to 1600 weaves per inch, Moe. Incredible find, partner! This Optimo Panama was mixed in with a bunch of ladies' hats in a Goodwill auction. I bid on it even though there was only one shot of the outside, not very clear, and the description only of "Optimo". The fineness of the weave was evident even in the bad pic. Beautiful hat, with one unfortunate spot of damage, a cracked straw on the brim that wasn't visible in the pic. Oh well, still an amazing piece of art.

Brim 2 1/2", crown 4" in front. 75g. Bummer about the brim, but it won't stop me from wearing it this summer!

The weave is so small and tight, I stopped counting at 1/4 inch and multiplied by 4!Thanks Tukwila!
I'll have to get some better pics, but that's about what I was counting too.
That Echt Panama is Echt beautiful!"Echt Panama" J. Pul Muntplein 5 Amsterdam, 59cm, Crown 5 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably late 1950s maybe later. This hat was one of a recent 3 hat find that included a Rehfus & Cie. / Hutfabrikanten Homburg and a Echter Borsalino Homburg. I tend to think it was blocked and dressed locally. I really like the ribbon design and blocking / form.
J. Pul Jr. Muntplein 5 Amsterdam probably 1920s - 1930s.
WOW Bill........some fantastic hats....................I guess you are all set for summer!!!!!!In just under 3 months I have picked up my third Brent Black. (A hat trick). I offered $150 which was accepted. The only thing I dislike about this hat is the sweatband is not leather. It has the black cotton twill that Brent Black offers. I do like that it has a brown crown ribbon vs the standard black.
