I have a similar hat but much better quality with the SAME feathers and all that my mother in law bought for AUD150!

Can't get much out of Ecuador under $20.00 (dollarization!) anymore and now everyone has to pay a broker and duty on each hat until the US decides they are duty free again.

I purchased it on 1979, so I don't remember the details, but I thought that it was a montecristi. Now that I know a little more than I did at the time, I'm beginning to question it. I know that it is not a very fine weave, but has anyone seen a montecristi brim that has been cut and stitched?

Can we see a photo of the inside of the crown? How many vueltas can you count? My gut says Cuenca, due to a couple of weave issues in the top of the crown, but the # of vueltas will seal the deal.

I'd say Cuenca. Weave looks a bit coarse to be a Montecristi, also the folded brim edge might indicate it's not. A nice and good looking llano weave panama, I think is what you have.

Thank you Aureliano, That's what I was thinking. It has become my summer knockabout hat, so that fact that it's not a montecristi doesn't matter much.

I had already come to the conclusion that I wouldn't purchase from that hat store again.
