Panama Hat Help Please

I am accustomed to wearing fur felt despite the perspiration during the summer. I have considered a Panama hat yearly -- about this time -- but always ruled them out because:

1. I have no idea what are the factors that make hat A superior to hat B.

2. I have no idea the reasonable service life of a good quality Panama hat were it worn daily during the summer.

3. I have no idea how to care for a Panama hat.

I don't believe I'm hijacking the thread, I'm just asking a more basic variation of the original query.
