Packer Kangaroo Leather

Its time to purchase another casual leather jacket. Looking at a budget below $1000 for the new custom size jacket. Specifically looking at a custom cafe racer jacker made of Packer kangaroo leather, preferably 0.6 mm thick. I'm only looking for this specific leather due to its toughness and light weight.

I'm reaching out to the members here for any knowledge of a jacket maker that can fulfill my requirements above. I know that US Wings sells a Packer kangaroo jacket but its a A2 jacket.

I've had great experience with Packer Kangaroo leather for my Motorcycle gear. I was wearing a Held Kangaroo race suit and gloves and Daytona Kangaroo boots when I had my 120mph 'highside' on the track. Walk away with only minor injuries and friction burns only. Held and Daytona only uses packer kangaroo leather for their race leather gear. I was informed by Held previously that 0.8mm kangaroo has equivalent abrasion resistance to 1.3mm race grade cowhide.

Roo leather is awesome. I have a fashion roo jacket from D&G and love it. Tough as nails but drapes like fabric. Unreal. Aero used to make jackets out of roo leather, but they ran out and they don't anymore. I asked them if they would make a jacket if I supplied the leather but they said no, too risky because hides are so small and matching panels is a nightmare. Please report on your quest here, roo leather is not getting the coverage it deserves here. It does not help that the nuts in California banned it, so JL may have to look into whether it is even legal to import it and make a jacket there.

Based on the website this looks like an unlikely maker. How would you establish that they can make an attractive and properly designed jacket pattern and where do they source their kanga hide? I'm not saying they can't do it (maybe they could copy another jacket) but this might be asking them to do something very different.

A well known company in Adelaide - Walden Miller - use roo hide. Their stuff is well regarded among riders.

I had a Mars Leathers kanga jacket for a while but the leather never broke in (it stayed hard and uncomfortable)- not even after 10 years and so I gave it to a thrift shop. Mars Leathers was sold years ago and now seems to sell imported junk.

I have emailed them on some queries. Let's wait and see their reply. Their FB is quite active with at least two jackets made in recent months

I have no experience with either brands. The only leathers I bought previously from Australia was my second custom made race leather suit from TigerAngels. Fantastic fit with supple cowhide. Only concern was that their armour had no certification. Wore it for 5 years on the track and gave it away to my cousin as I gained weight. Moved on to Held Kangaroo race suit from there and never looked back until now.

Walden Miller here in Adelaide specialises in moto specific gear and they offer kangaroo leather. They’re very well priced and regarded by the moto crew. Their designs are a bit 90’s though.

Yeah - most makers seem to be older men who might have gotten stuck in a time period. Mars used to sell patterns from the 60's based on classic era trim patterns.

Found this kangaroo leather jacket on the local craigslist but the jacket is one size too big for me. Seller inidcated that the jacket was purchased from Australia a few years back. Upon researching the brand on the web, the website seems to indicate a budget range of leather jackets

made of genuine leather and there was no mention of Kangaroo leather jackets. Weird!
