Oversized Fits

Hi all,

I've been lurking for a while, perusing through the sea of leather jacket fit pics. I'm looking to purchase an Aero HWM in the near future and was looking for examples of a more oversized fit (my preference for jackets being cropped and wide/boxy). I know the general consensus is to size down 1-2 to get a more fitted/slimmed look, and thus there's a lot of examples on this website with that case.

I was hoping for the people buying true to size, or even a size up in their jackets to come forward and show off how it looks.

Thanks

I think it would be helpful if you post a fit that you would consider slim/tight to your taste. I personally don't like those "sausage casing" fits

I think these two fits, both lifted from TFL and are examples of going TTS, encapsulate what I'm looking for fit wise. I was just wondering if people had any experience even going up further than TTS.

@El Marro is spot on - Just buy the regular Highwayman in the size you actually wear and it'll be perfect. If you're going to do a custom order, make sure to leave it at a default back length.
I did notice in some fit examples, those who mess with the jacket length really throw off the proportions of the jacket, leading to a really odd looking outcome.

What is wrong with the size of my HWM (left picture)
I am 6ft wearing a size 40 26"back
For winter conditions I just recieved my Montgomery size 42 with a quilted lining (42 is my tagged size)

I think he was referring to your pic with the first half of his reply saying that's what he's looking for - second doesn't apply lol

Thanks, you are probably right.
I own the HWM since 2014 and it wears wonderful, you just throw it on. I love the stile and bought my Montgomery because it has a simular cut.

The Highwayman looks bad when people do the TFL/Thurston downsize (frankly Aero needs to call out Thurston for the whole "40 fits like a 44" labeling on their listings of the jacket). It's a boxy pattern by design; downsizing makes the proportions look off in every instance. If you want the correct fit, buy it in your chest size.

If you want a trim version, they made the "Premier Highwayman" for that.

100%! Although, in TB's... Well, defense, back when they started as an Aero retailer, sprayed on leather jacket look was all the rage so from a business perspective, their whole downsizing gig was kind of viable - Just that they couldn't have chosen a less appropriate maker to do it to.
Ken's strict pre-1959 vision is so intrinsic in all of their designs that the scope of ways they allow people to screw up their jackets is frankly baffling to me.

Leather jackets are back in fashion more than ever and exactly in this specific boxy, slightly oversized yet well fitting form that Aero does and I think it's going to last for quite a while. TB has a fantastic opportunity to adapt and get rid of the whole stupid downsizing gig.

I think they tried to do just that in the thread they created: “Explaining the Aero Fit.”

It must be annoying to have someone claim that your jackets are sized incorrectly when in fact, they are sized the way they are for a reason. On the other hand, Aero themselves bear some responsibility because they play pretty fast and loose with measurements in relation to tag size. If you look at five different Highwaymen with the same size tag, you are likely to find a pretty wide variety of pit to pit, shoulder, and hem measurements.

Nothing wrong, actually quite the opposite. I was saying that it fits well :)
