I wish you hadn't posted that second picture. I almost lost my breakfast. I have seen it before, but it is shocking each time I see it. I have a fear of heights.

As an acrophobe I can relate. I literally get a bit woozy viewing it.

Makes me recall when I realized I had to scale a 20 foot tower with a rope in military basic training!

Their just sitting there eating lunch is bad enough, but when I think of how they got there, and how they will leave, it is just too much.

I was able to watch 26 seconds of that video. It's even worse than the picture. Every hair on my body was standing on end.

I just remembered that one tribe of Indians specialized in working on skyscrapers in NYC. I think it was the Mohawks. Far better them than me.

I pretty much have since the 1970s. Many rural folk would wear them to town or church with a suit jacket. We have a thread dedicated to that.

From the 30's onward, it came to symbolize rural or backward folk in American popular culture into the 60's. One famous wearer was American professional wrestler Haystacks Calhoun who wore it as both wrestling costume and everyday wear.
