Over 50 wearing leather jackets

I can't image wearing leather jackets in a hot and humid environment while everyone else is dressed in shorts and hot weather wear. Anyone should wear what they want, but I can understand the wonder and possible criticism.

Anyone who really thinks it's not possible to overdress has never been to a job interview or held down a real job. It's the kind of flippant insight you'd get from someone justifying a narcissistic personal style. It's one of those almost funny lines, but not as good as Vivian Westwood's, 'When in doubt, overdress.'

Interesting Topic. I am definitely guilty of overdressing. Two years ago I was hired to work the Xmas season for a well known mainstream designer who I really adore. I dressed up everyday for work out of sheer pleasure of working there and the amazing discounts I was getting. I couldn't have been happier, especially knowing it was only a short term gig and I would leave with a pile of clothes. Well the managers liked it, at least the higher ups, but the other salespeople and floor mangers were "alert" to it let's put it like that. If everyone else is casual and you aren't, you will definitely get some flack for it....
The thing is these days people don't dress up and personally I find it unattractive. I love fashion and style. The Chinese sportswear and moon sneakers just doesn't do it for me. The problem is everybody else is dressed down so you stand out but at 50 at least I can claim past decades as my influence. Personally the 70's Gucci era is one I can be stuck in for life.

Everyone is different and that's great. What I dislike is when people look down on mainstream folks and patronize them for wearing baseball caps or sports gear. Period correct clothing or high end artisanal clothing is a hobby not a moral imperative. Virtue signalling by clothing is poor form and I know I have been guilty of this myself in years gone by. These days I prefer not to stand out and am quite happy to wear polyester or affordable mainstream workwear.

I agree, that's why I don't like Bali
in my town I can walk around in shorts and tshirt all year if I want to without freezing, I can also wear pants and jackets and feeling a bit warmer all year round, would be crazy here to wear fur coat or blanket lined jacket.

I totally agree with that view, everyone have different taste, but I draw a line when someone go to a mall or restaurant in shorts and flipflops, while often time they are rich and purposefully aware to choose to dress that way as a statement like " look at you all mediocre poor folk who has to dress up to go to a mall to prove something, we are rich we dont care, can buy the entire mall if we want to, let me flash you my latest mobilephone or my italian sportcar key."

I am over 50 and so is the jacket.

How many people do you know for whom you can say they have any kind of style or as little as preference toward their wardrobe, other than of course what they are comfortable in.

with current social media, celebrity style, style gurus, etc, there is a lot of references forcedly shoved your way when you just casually open IG or facebook. if say 95% people in the mall wearing decent clothes whatever their style and budget is, and only 5% wearing shorts and clothes they wear at home but obviously rich, I do think they aware, and want to stand out in their own way. same way if in my country now we all wear mask in public, several who don't must aware of what they are doing and want to stand out from the crowd.

My version of the Half Belt. I went on the Aero website and took elements of the 5 different styles of Half Belts that I liked then had my guy in TIJUANA produce it.
I purchased the hardware and leather on my own.

Nice work and pretty hide. Did you get the side straps mounted with extra leather underneath the stitching on the inside of the jacket? I find that stops them from ripping off.

Thanks. I can't tell due to the liner but more than likely not. That would have needed to be discussed prior. Personally I only need to adjust them once and then I leave them alone so it is a non issue for me.

The hide is called Vaqueta which basically means cow but in Mexico it refers to this type of leather which is very similar to vegetable tanned leather from the UK.

Not here, also you would never see barechested men or in sleeveless top walking around young or old. You can say cultural difference. You also will never see sunglasses at least very rarely, since the sun is straight above. Unless in tourists spot like Bali, etc.

I don't know, probably since the sun is right on top of our head, and sun rise and sun set goes very fast, we never need to wear it, unless you plan to lie face up when sunbathing or playing with drone or RC aeroplane. I just rarely see anyone young or old wear it, unless it is a self tinting prescription glasses, also due to sun heat, walking around in the sun is not common here, in my small city we hardly have sidewalk, often time on my morning walk I have to squeeze myself to the edge of the road not to get hit by mopeds or cars on the way back when lots of people rushing to their job or school.

I wouldn't say it is a non-issue, it has nothing to do with how often you adjust them. I have lost 3 side straps over the years because they sometimes catch on things and tear right off, unless held by some additional leather. Not everyone will have that experience - I am clumsy. Nice to do it in case you do.

or you might anchor it with small buttons too same way like button up jacket, just hand sew it through the lining probably inside the inner pocket if you have one over the same spot, make sure both leather panel and lining is flat so it wont bulge or puling weirdly when worn.
