We humans appear to have an incessant need to label everything, while the majority of photos of other UFOs show nothing like that.

I see two giant leaps there starting with we humans - incessant need, & UFO photos show no hieroglyphics.

While it certainly doesn't prove alien origin, hieroglyphics on unidentified craft are observed frequently. The most famous case being the Rendlesham Forest case & the observation & field notes of the night by Jim Penniston.

Are we to assume all the variations observed from multiple incidents around the world are just secret logos like secret handshakes?

I have only my experiences and what I've read and seen to rely on, and I can't recall ever seeing a photo of a UFO with any markings. That being said, I readily admit I've read very little because it's not a subject that interests me. As such, I'll just keep my opinions to myself from now on, especially since I'm clearly out of my league here.

Naaw. All voices are welcome here, Zombie!

The Rendlesham Forest case is well known mostly because of the credible witnesses involved and that it is documented that something was seen. Beyond that, it piddles out, as such cases often do.

The problem is that, while there are legitimate grounds for investigating Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), the water is muddied by the numerous crackpots out there. Anyone doubting that there is something “there there” just needs to google New York Times articles on UFOs over the last three years or so. However, that doesn’t make it any easier to be interested in the subject. Best to keep quiet about it!

In today’s news there is the following. Undoubtedly true:

With the recent passing of the Omnibus Spending Bill, seemingly the clock is ticking and The Pentagon’s UAP Task Force now has 180 days to provide the Senate Intelligence Committee with their unclassified report detailing The Pentagon’s current investigations into UFOs.

Sorry Z. Your position just reminded me of the logical fallacies of debating learned from Debate class. Arguments like:

God is love
Love is blind
Ray Charles was blind
Therefore Ray Charles was God

As far as lack of UFO pics showing hieroglyphics, I can't think of 5 pics in the public domain that even show an unidentified craft close up enough to even see if the craft was marked with hieroglyphics or not. Most pics are fuzzy pics taken in the sky, lights in the night' etc. Hardly a sample size large enough that I would want to base my claim on.

I'll withdraw from the thread.

Oh, no worries Jack. I do believe there is life on other planets somewhere in the universe so I enjoy discussions like this, but I tend to chime in with no actual facts because I find reading about such unidentified craft repetitive and rather boring. Also, I just can't concoct a good reason for why any of these beings would want to visit this chamberpot of a planet. So sometimes I need someone to remind me that I don't actually know what I'm talking about here and that I'm just reciting personal theories and/or any other miscellaneous rubbish that's been floating around in my mind far too long. So your "Ray Charles was God" example is a good one--connecting the dots with no valid reasons for doing so.

My understanding of the current situation is that most scientists believe that life probably exists somewhere in the universe. The debate is how common intelligent life is or is not. Then comes the highly debatable part: if there is intelligent life, is it possible that we have been “visited”? Contrary to the popular view, there is quite a bit of evidence that something that has not been explained is out there. Whether “unexplained” might mean “extraterrestrial” is another valid point of disagreement. The Pentagon has recently admitted that military pilots have encountered things that they cannot explain. There are radar images, non-fake photos, and incidence where there are numerous witnesses and/or highly credible witnesses. The military has also admitted that they are funding a formerly top secret program to study the phenomenon. In the new Defense Appropriations bill that was just passed, there is language requiring an unclassified report to Congress on the findings of this program within 180 days. So, one way or the other, we will likely have at least a little more information by about June or so. I think the main takeaway from all this is that the topic has now risen to the level where it can be taken seriously.

The more I know about the Earth & the life upon it, the less I'm inclined to believe the possibility that life exists elsewhere in the universe.
For me it's nothing more than a numbers game, i.e. that the odds are far better for some form of life existing elsewhere in the vastness of the universe than the forms on this relatively insignificant planet being so unique. As you wrote, the more I know about all of the things that have to exist or occur at precisely the right time and in just the right way in order to maintain what we call life on this planet, the harder I find it to believe we're the best the universe (or whichever supreme being/deity/deities you believe in) can come up with.

...Whether “unexplained” might mean “extraterrestrial” is another valid point of disagreement...
I think a large part of the misunderstandings is that so many...I'll be kind and use the term "interested parties"...seem to have their own definitions of those two words that they distort to further whatever their personal agendas might be, sometimes using them interchangeably even though they aren't synonyms. *shrug* People are going to believe whatever they want to believe.

Even if there were to be some form of advanced interplanetary life out there that could visit us or communicate with us in some way, what would we do? Thousands of years of human civilsation and we can't even get along with different cultures and people from the other side of our own world. How would we establish any sort of meaningful, peaceful relations with a culture removed from anything resembling our own by hundreds of light years?

I dig Star Wars, but that famous cantina alien scene would never work in real life. Creatures so different would have to put in a lot of hard effort to understand each other's ideas, beliefs, values etc. If we can't tolerate each other, we'd have Buckley's chance of sharing a drink with a multi-limbed amphibian traveller from Proxima Centauri and it not ending badly.

^^^^^ Agree completely with Benny.

First UFO/UAP sighting of the new year. From my state!
I have no idea what it is. It looks like a balloon but does not act like one. Multiple witnesses. Local TV coverage.
I love this one mainly because, in the video, some of the witnesses are speaking in Hawaiian Pidgin. Oh, bruddah! Dat buggah wen stay dakine, l’dat!

Off topic, but Tom the Hawaiian Pidgin reminds me of some of my Samoan friends here in Sydney - well, the ones born in Samoa, not so much the kids born here. They speak in a similar fashion and it always makes me smile, 'cause they're all such warm and fun people.

Avi Leob makes a good case. Oumuamua was strange and acted strangely. Unfortunately, we will never know for sure.

I am awaiting later today (hopefully) the safe landing of the latest Mars Rover. It is targeted to land in what was once a lake bed and the soil should contain hints of former life. This rover is loaded with equipment to detect if microbial life is still present. Could be big news in coming weeks/months.
