gentleman i purchased hat from told me his grand dad purchased hat in the (30s or) 40s.
from what little i know i figured 50s

It would be interesting to know when the first embroidered Last Drops were offered. I certainly do not know.

I have to disagree. That sweatband says typical 1950s to me, not 40s. But, we'd need more shots of size tags, imprints, and logos to be more sure. I would not put it into the 40s. Just because there is no plastic liner does not mean it has to be 40s.

I like it! It's unreeded, with a beautiful shape, and a mystery brand. I was told by an expert (who normally wishes to remain anonymous, ahem!) It looks like a Lee.
Besides, I was depressed, and needed a pick-me-up.

Sound like all perfectly good reasons to me!

• A 1981 trademark filing references a first use in trade for THE LAST DROP FOROM HIS STETSON in 1921.
• The national ad campaign goes back to the 20s.
• Registration #1132246 May of 1948 for use in headwear.

Just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone looking for a knox twenty that is very inexpensively priced that I saw today on Etsy. I'm not a size 7, but some of you might be. I didn't inquire as to what the brim width was, but it did look like it had an oilskin liner in it.

This was a new brand to me. At my request, the seller found the size label under the sweatband. I knew it was a 1:1000 chance it would be my size, but I had to ask. Anyone looking for a topper?

Roberto and Jula ceded a little on the price. I feigned disinterest, asking about another hat, and casually asked about this one. Maybe they're also a little affected by the stay at home order.
On the other hand, so am I!
Dang, not only am I not working, but I gave my tenants a 50% discount for April. Dentists are especially at risk, because of the aerosol created by the handpiece.
I knew I should have been a lawyer, damn it.

Yes, the illustration was used in the 20s for posters and advertisements, but the trademark application for headgear clearly says the earliest use claimed in hats is from 1948.

I am not aware (or don’t remember) examples of this liner before WWII. From the photos provided, this hat appears to be a lovely c.1950 example. If it is earlier, labels, size tag and sweatband markings will show something different than expected.

^^^^as said above by those in the know, if no tip protector and seam on the side (imho) i concur. I’m going with the earliest of early.
And a super fine example as well.
Did they have Lot#s during that time frame???

1941-42. I've not seen a LOTXXXX number imprinted on a sweatband after this time. This practice went the way of the gold size label about the same time.
