Had to console myself with this win. Was needing a new straw for farm wear.

Forgot that this one was ending tonight so missed it. Probably not my size anyway as it appears it was custom for some lady. Sold for $15.

Rowell's custom.

Too bad you missed that one Bob. Also, thanks for sharing that excellent video. I don't know when it was made, but those hat bodies appeared to have less shellac in them than our overly stiff, modern offerings. Makes me long for the way things were.

I understand that if you wear a size 7-1/2 or larger it is impossible to get a dress weight beaver body regardless of color, that will make any hat larger than about a 2-1/2 x 5-1/2? Is that just Winchester or?
Not strictly true Hurricane. I've had good success getting close to a 6" crown with a max 2 3/4" brim in the dress weight if I order the body a size larger than the intended hat size. It's more work, to be sure, but often doable. Unfortunately Winchester's largest size dress body (double yellow string) is intended for a 7 3/4 hat and at that size or beyond the larger dimensions are usually not possible except in western weight.

With extra work can you reliably get a size 7-5/8 (24.0") x 3" x 6" OC in a dress weight? 5-3/4" OC?

In 7 5/8 I can usually get to a 2 3/4" brim with an open crown between 5 3/4" and 6" in a dress weight. I've made more than a few just such hats for Brent and others. 3" brims are western weight territory, although, light weight western bodies are generally available in natural and black. They're not as thick, but still very stiff. As for the extra work, hell, if it was too easy I wouldn't want to do it.

For the accuracy of what I want the 3" brim is important & if the OC fell shorter than 5-3/4" the dimensions start to look off.
Your crown height would be no problem in a dress weight. The 3" brim would most likely not be possible. What color are you looking for Jack? I can check my stock of hat bodies for you if you like to see if there are any with larger brims.

Black or a vintage color available in the 1910's - 1920's timeframe. Not looking for Eggplant or Periwinkle.

Another idea just occurred to me would be a black OR with the dimensions of the early OR's.

A black OR with a 5 3/4" crown and 2 3/4" brim with a narrow binding would be sweet...and doable. Kind of like my black cherry OR clone, beat up and dirty in this pic. The brim is only 2 1/2" on mine but I had a 1/4" to spare.

Rick, I don't remember if it was you or someone else awhile back looking for 2-cord & 3-cord ribbon. Did anyone find a source?
That was me Jack. I've struck out everywhere I've checked so far. Even Mark at Hatter's Supply in Colorado couldn't help me, though he did try. I would have thought it would be easy to buy rolls and rolls of that stuff, but I was dead wrong.

Well, if you can't find any, I doubt I could. I wonder where Optimo gets theirs?
