What did I just buy? Not sure if it’s a win or a loss yet, but it looked good and was $20. View attachment 502872 View attachment 502873 View attachment 502874 View attachment 502876 View attachment 502875 View attachment 502877
For Twenty dollars you most likely can not go wrong. In fact the price of this hat new in its day may very well have been close to that figure.

It is a store branded hat made for Barney’s clothing stores… this one out of Detroit. Many of these “store brand” private label hats were made by some of the top hat makers. who that could be… might be anyone’s guess. After you receive it if there are any paper labels under the sweatband it might shed some light.

Resistol might be one possibility. But just a guess.

By the way.. the rear bow ribbon style was popular for a while in the 30s and again in the mid to late 50’s. My guess would be for the latter. Nice looking hat. Congratulations.

I hope someone here got these as my morning got away from me and I missed the end of the auction (I had a chance for free oak logs that a logger up the hill on National Forest property was leaving behind as they were too short or just not enough for him to load and make a run with his semi-truck -- I had until today to get them out of there and have been working on cutting / hauling for three days).

The sizes are unknown, but I'm still pretty bummed.
