OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

An impromptu run to town allowed me to pick up these two hats I had bought back in the days before COVID.

A dirty Open Road:

A Country Gentleman woolie that was paired with it. My daughter can probably find some use for it.

I asked the seller to use care in packing the hat. Here was his reply:

“I wanted to double check that you had seen in the description that the top has been bent and reformed before- the hat is not rigid like many bowlers, but is very soft and flexible, and the top has definitely been crushed and reformed, probably numerous times.”

Seems like a good seller to me. Here’s the “bowler” I bought:

Too bad that that the crown is soft. ;)

Actually a quite touching response by the seller. Shows he cares (but doesn't know hats).

OK....I am "out and about" this past weekend. I have been looking for a 50's 60' Borsalino box and a similar vintage Disney "Currier and Ives" box for some time......
Then I find these:

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
But wait it gets better (and quite like an episode of "Twilight Zone" or a GREAT Magic Trick)!!!!!!!! NOW bear in mind these were purchased at two different shops.......Boxes RARELY have the interior structures let alone a hat......(and if there IS a hat, it is a crappy hat from 30 years later and often a women's hat(s) too....). Not only was the interior structure there BUT...........
Inside the Disney Box was a.......BORSALINO (size 7 1/4 so will be moving on).
IMG_20200608_101346.jpg

AND inside the Borsalino box was a DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!! Size 7 1/8 so will also move on.......

ALL of this just goes to show, You just never know what will come your way!!!!! AND it also illustrates nicely that just because a hat comes to you in a certain hat box does not mean the two are in ANY way related to one another.......(while these two hats did indeed roughly match the time period of these boxes they of course did not match brands). All too often the nice old 50's hat box (when a hat is involved) contains a crappy wool 70's or 80's hat........(I wish I had a $1 bill for every ebay hat and box listed as an awesome 30's 40's hat in its "original" box (which is from the 50's 60's)......(and of course the hat in question is a wool Stetson/Dobbs with the metric /fractional size tag which was made in the late 70's at the earliest)!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:;);););)

ANYWAY I am happy with these and will be keeping the boxes where I will "marry" them to correct hats for storage.....(at least the Borsalino anyway, I am still looking for a 50's Disney in my size).

WOW! What a couple of great finds and cool story how it came about. Congratulations

The mystery Resistol (mysteresistol) that I put in the Waiting For thread yesterday has had its mystery solved (and the mystery Lounger who is facilitating this long distance pickup is revealed as well). Thanks @Michael A !

One 'X' better than my current San Antonio.

A few minor spots that should clean up completely I think.

I like this gold color, or copperish or whatever, liner a lot.

Great buy for $4. I would be very happy to find this in a size 7 or 6 7/8. I don't see any evidence of mothing at all.
