I have something rare on sale at Ebay. Since now we cannot leave feedback as sellers I am amazed. Not one but 2 have noted on my auction that the price is high.
I have overhead that is not the same as the average ebay seller.
Would you leave comments like that on auctions, if you sell what would you answer?
As I negotiate on my sites it is not something I am concerned about but more curious.
I love the history of vintage and antiques.

Today's coffee must not be strong enough, but I don't quite follow your post. Where were the comments made about the price being high? Were they referring to postage or the item? Any chance you can post the auction number?

I cannot post auctions (noone can of live auctions) but I cannot due to vendor status.

The comments are posted as questions under the auction.
There is method to my madness when it comes to my business.
So many types of dealers really and they all do it differently.
I just cannot imagine finding anyone's auction and telling them it is to high.

Maybe your prices are high [huh] Respond that it's rare/collectible.

Remember, a lot of people are on ebay to get a bargain, not to pay collector's/dealer's prices.

I have in the auction that it is rare as it is and deadstock.
I am really seeing an end to Ebay or a big drop anyway. Not maybe from buyers but from sellers.

I find the questions to be wierd. I've come across auctions that I felt were too high as well, but simply did not bid. I would not bother a seller and tell him or her that your prices are high. If an item doesn't sell, many sellers will relist the item at a lower price. Did you post the answers to the questions in your listings? I don't think I would have done so.

I'd still respond and post the response on the auction. Maybe post a link too, to something similar for a similar price.

Sometimes sellers DO post things that aren't worth much for completely ridiculous prices. These potential buyers you're dealing with probably think you don't know any better, when in facts it's they who don't know any better!

I think postage increases, basically due to fuel costs, are cutting into ebay profits. This is especially true on larger boxes. An item is only worth so much and as postage goes up the net goes down.

Since their comments show I did respond.
This is the very first time to list this and I have many options open to sell but just found it strange. One did send me an offer by email and I counteroffered but now since they have both commented I will see.
I do honestly see a huge trend of dealers fed up and just going back to brick and mortar shops and shows.
If a truckload of antiques can be bought for a song you then have a truckload of trash. I have been in business since 1996 and find it interesting.
Supply and demand is business. So many factors go into pricing.

Ebay wooed antique malls in the beginning and it caused many to shut down. As people came on board the things thought to be rare turned out to be not.
Different areas have different items and this is what helped prices before the internet.
I have to find very unique items to stay afloat but with the internet the way the search engines work you have to keep adding more inventory for the spiders.
This is a big burden on many dealers and the only reason one sees such cheap prices. That and the propaganda. It cost more than $1.08 to list a .99 item on ebay.
Sooner or later not feasible. Later seems to of come and now everyone is scattered to many other selling places. It is not pretty currently.
I have always had 3 mottos in this business.
1. If I am not having fun I don't want to do it.
2. I love to work with my customer, not against and keep them safe. Returning customers are my business including other dealers.
3. I love the history and want to conserve not exploit antiques.

All the more curiosity. I think they are testing the waters or the no limitations. I found a great story about this the other day but now cannot find it.
