I have acquired a number of jackets as of late and need to pare down.

An original Spiewak A-2, size 44, fits like a modern 42. Leather is in very good condition but is clearly a re-dye, lining is original and average with some separation at the neck, waist band is original with some mothing, cuffs are replacements and fraying, the sipper has been replaced with a Kwik and works perfectly.

The strong points of the jacket are that it is a somewhat rare contract, it is a larger size (44),the leather is in extraordinary condition, supple and strong, zero dry spots. The re-dye is wearing slightly under the arms and shows off some beautiful red tones. The tag is clear, all hardware is in great shape, there are no needle marks from any insignia, and it is stenciled with the owner's name: "Sweet, Herbert C." Serial number "O-1699878."

If one does a quick search, you'll discover that Herbert Sweet was an alumnus of Michigan in 1931, 1937 and 1938, graduating with a M.D. He enlisted and completed training with a "Superior Rating" in late 1943, promoted to Captain as a flight surgeon, and was shipped overseas in February 1944. After the war, he settled and started a medical practice in St. Louis in 1947 and became a renown thoracic surgeon, practicing both medicine and teaching at the St. Louis University School of medicine. In fact, there is a lectureship named in his honor. I have not attempted to contact the family, although it appears many of them are still in the St. Louis area.

In any case it is a great example of this contract, save for the wear at the neck and armpits. The jacket is entirely wearable with the only caution being the separation of the lining at the neck.

$1,000 firm, shipped to your door in the US. International buyers to pay exact shipping. I am not interested in trades, except for an original Fried Osterman or Star Sportswear A-2 in a size 44, 46, or 48 in similar or better condition, where of course I would contribute extra funds depending on condition.
