A selection of images of a vintage Gordon & Ferguson M-422A in a larger size (44), illustrated on John Chapman's jacket CD.
It's a beautiful jacket, anybody who believes that goat will not show its age/acquire patina/soften simply needs to see these photos.
I'd love to know the identity of the removed patch (apparently circular with 'horns'), if anybody knows of it?
It's also incredibly comfortable: the fit is great around the torso, shoulders, length (sleeves a little long, but not dramatically so).

Dimensions:

Front length 25"
Back length 26"
Shoulders 19"
Pit to pit (not extended) 23"
Sleeves 26"

However, I'm coming to the conclusion that I don't suit the bi-swing, mouton collar jackets so well so I'll be advertising it in the near future.

Gorgeous patina on that remarkable M-422a! Goatskin keeps its suppleness over 70 years and keeps getting better with age.

I'm interested in the mouton collars on the likes of the M-422A. The ones you see on repros tend to be very thick and luxurious, but originals seem much thinner, and I don't mean in a worn-out kind of way. Did they vary or are we just a bit more demanding when it comes to warmth?

I've noticed the same thing Sloan. The vintage mouton feels like soft mink (or petting a cat's fur) while the new repro G-1 collars seems more like the feel of thick shag carpet. One area where repro G-1 jackets just don't seem accurate, IMHO.

Yes, I think it's there just to appeal to people's desire for 'value for money'. Don't get me wrong, they look lovely, but it just struck me that they seemed quite different, though definitely warmer, from the originals.

I'd agree with that entirely. The mouton on this G&F is actually softer/silkier to the touch and warmer than an ostensibly thicker/denser covering on my ELC B-15.

The one thing I never liked about the repo's was the large oversized collar. The original ones had smaller sized (and G-1's more rounded @-the point) collars. I have a Cockpit Vintage G-1 that looks much more accurate to the originals than most of the more so-called better/High-End jackets!
