For my Premiere & Excellent Modern Stratoliners, I typically go with a center dent. A diamond is just an easy move from there.
As said earlier, each hat has a crease it wants to be in. Just listen to it....

Totally agree with S4C. The diamond presses the sidewall of the crown outward and makes the sides a little straighter. My modern Strat just wants to taper like mad. The diamond (more like a soft diamond on mine) is just the thing to correct that.

Diamond for me too. Made the sides nice and straight. It still has a 4.5" crown height at the pinch.

For the right hat, I like the cattleman's crease. All my ORs are done that way, but with a front brim "strategically dipped below one eye," as the song had it. I'll admit the cattleman's looks kind of strange head on, but in profile the hat, and its wearer, look great.
