I love the lines spoken at the start of Richard Diamond by Dick Powell. Those always manage to crack me up.

"Diamond Detective Agency. Mary had a little lamb, she hit it with a stick. She could have gotten twenty years, but instead she came to Rick!"

"Diamond detective agency. Roses are red;violets are blue. Crime doesn't pay, but make sure that you do!"

"Diamond Detective Agency. First over the bar!"

And of course, the way he treats Sgt. Otis...

I love that show.

Huzzah! another Diamond-lover! It's definitely my favorite show for MANY reasons. Poor Otis! lol

[phone rings]
Rick: Diamond Detective Agency, where the blue of my eyes meets the gold in your wallet.
Helen: Oh, that’s pretty terrible.
Rick: Hmm, you may be right.
Helen: You admit it?
Rick: Yes, I‚Äôve seen your wallet.

And another, not an opening line...

Lt. Levinson: Put the cuffs on them, Otis.
Sgt. Otis: Yes, sir. [to crooks] OK, you put out your right and you put out your left--
Rick: And I'll be in Sing Sing before you.
Sgt. Otis: --and I'll be in - Aww, get him!

lol lol lol

You know, the first show I heard of Diamond was the one where June Allison played the mysterious Mrs. X. Actually, this was the very first vintage radio show I'd ever heard...after it was over, I thought to myself "I don't get it." Anyway, the next day, I thought about it, listened to it again, and it suddenly made sense. I got addicted from that point on. I still think Mrs. X is my favorite Diamond episode.

Levinson: I never forget a face.
Diamond: He's been trying to every since he got Otis.

Diamond: You can't cross me like this fatty!
Allison: Wanted?
Levinson: Won't tell me your name eh?
Allison: No!
Won't tell me your husband's name?
Allison: No!
Levinson: Then you're hiding something!
Allison: Yes.
Levinson: yes?
Diamon: Y-E-S, meaning of course.
Levinson: Now you shut up! Stop that Rick!

Levinson: You ever in Chicago, Lady?
Allison: Of course.
Levinson: Of Course?
Diamond: O-F C-O-U-R-S-E, meaning-
Levinson: You stay out of this!

Levinson: You run around with Tony Capone while in Chicago?
Diamond: You talking to me?
Levinson: No, I'm talking to her!
Diamond: Well, I'm glad. Tony never gave me back my elk's tooth!
Allison: Well, I don't know why you're talking to me, captain, I never gave Mr. Capone an elk's tooth.
Levinson: {Groans}
Diamond: It's Lieutenant dear. You've got to stop promoting him; he'll get a swell head.
Levinson: You rat!
Otis: {busting in} You call me, lieutenant?

Wow, I rambled on there. Still, good show. Awesome dialogue. Glad to find someone else who likes it.

Ooh yes, that episode's a hoot! Such a clever way of announcing, too. I certainly wouldn't have gotten it if I didn't already know they were married. The first episode I heard was Louis Spence, the bomber who tries to blow up the homicide division.

The dialogue for the whole show is just terrific. I blame Blake Edwards. ;)
