The Open Road was a special offering and I think only two people took it up. Because of this is took a lot to get them done. I don't think that it will happen again. But never say never. Like anything if there is enough interest it may be doable.

Jeff
I got the other one & REALLY want to thank Jeff for staying on HatCo to get these 2 to done. Merry Christmas!!!

gtdean, do you have any photos of your Premier Open Road? I'd love to see the bash. As much as I like my vintage hats, I can't seem to stray too far away from my Premier OR.

Sorry but mine is still pristine in the box. It got here just as Christmas stuff & haven't had time but for quick look at it. I'll unbox it shortly & post a review & photos.

My wife got me a Stetson Grand Central in Silver belly for Christmas. .....I was dry bashing it while everyone else was still opening gifts.....GTDean you have more will power than I do sir. Will have to take some pictures of it and post. The felt was so nice and it took the dry bash well...still need to steam it.

Isn't the Akubra CD pretty close, style-wise, to the OR?
The Akubra Campdraft has a considerably taller crown than Stetson Open Roads and a wider, 2-7/8" versus 2-1/2", brim with a considerably more pronounced flange than the nearly flat Open Road one.
My 1980s' Open Road is also over half an ounce lighter in weight than my Campdrafts.

S Just dry creased a quick center dent and it took the dry crease well, albeit with a bit of "spidering". Not quite "vintage" quality but not a bad hat at all. I can definitely tell a difference between the felt in Stetson's "Premier" quality hats and their "Excellent" quality.

You can see the felt issues in the open crown photos.

Does anyone have a picture of an Open Road and a Campdraft side by side with cattleman's creases? The shorter crown on the Open Road has always been a little uncomfortable for me and the hat rides higher over my ears than any of my other hats. Maybe a Campdraft with cattleman's crease might fit me better.

Okay Ladies & Gents...
Here is my Royal DeLuxe Open Road from DelMonico Hatters. Jeff did a heck of job running this to ground.
The open crown measures right at 6" & brim at 2 3/4". The crown & brim are much stiffer than my Premiere Stratoliner, flatter flange too.
The brim is slightly thinner but open crown is deeper than my Heritage Campdraft. Felt & hand of finish are comparable to the Campdraft Deluxe.

One last comment on this = I mainly bought it for my 55th birthday present to myself & it being a 150th Anniversary of Stetson BUT this hat does NOT have the 150th pin as I expected it to.
It also does NOT have 150th holographic sticker that my Excellent Stratoliner has. There is nothing showing this was a 2015/150th model. Serious miss there IMHO by HatCo & Stetson.
