Matt Deckard's Tumblr page now has photos of an open crown prototype Whippet. It must be Christmas for all of us open crown fans.

Is that a white Whippet on Deckard's page?

I may have to actually break down and buy a new hat! I am usually loath to buy new-made hats. But that thing looks sweet.

I received my black Stratoliner from DelMonico yesterday. I'm very impressed with the hat. The felt is very soft and was easy to hand crease without the need of any steam. The liner and sweatband are very classy too. I did remove the plastic airplane pin and replaced it with a sterling silver reproduction pin. The hat looks and feels great!

I want to thank Matt Deckard and Stetson. I appreciate the effort to produce these and hope they are a big success...so I can get one in silverbelly too!

PS: Jeff, thanks for all your help!

Hi Landman, can you recommend a source for the sterling Strat pin?

Tom posted the link. He makes both a real TWA Stratoliner pin and the DC-3 TWA Stratoliner pin that Stetson incorrectly used for its original Stratoliner hats.

I couldn't take it anymore. I just ordered a black Stratoliner from DelMonico.

I actually tried to order one through the local western wear store and keep my money local, but they seemed too bothered to order me one since they already had a walnut one in stock. I tried to explain the difference but it was like talking to a wall.

Wow, that was fast.

Lighting fast USPS priority mail to Los Angeles, the package got to the area since 12/16/2013 according to the tracking website. DelMonico ordering page quoted 6 weeks delivery. Anyways I'm very pleased with the hat, I find no flaws in the felt and it took a C bash with side dents dry with no signs of spider-webbing.

That's what confused me, the 6 week waiting time. I have a Strat and a Stetsonian on order. Glad you are pleased, everyone else has been here, too.

Hatophile I can't wait to hear your opinion on these. You have so many beautiful vintage hats, your comparison would be most illuminating.

Jeff I quess the mink Strat's will not be here until sometime in January. As Stetson has a Christmas shutdown. As that correct? An Please get Hatophile his Stetsonian.

Here is my review of the Stetsonian. Felt on the brim is soft and easy to snap down in the front. The Crown felt is a little stiffer
Does need Hot steam to set your bash. The Twany is a nice color slight modeling of the color at the brim break ( could be just me being picky.) Ribbon work nothing to write home about very workman like nothing that pop's might send it to Art to show Stetson what real ribbon work looks like. For Stetson the hat is a real step up from previous work but there is room for improvement. It is a good starter hat and that was my hope with the Stetsonian it will never compete with a VS hat.
It is not a Fed IV level yet but if the work hard I think they can compete with Akubra in the future. Need a Dove color to add more wear ability to the line. Still waiting on the Strat.

I believe the 6 week wait is if DelMonico does not have the hat in stock. I ordered a mink Strat when DelMonico first starting taking orders but I have not received it yet (or been charged) since Stetson hasn't sent them out. Obviously this is no fault of DelMonico. I then decided last Friday to order a black Stratoliner too. I called and Jeff said they happened to have one in my size in stock. I ordered it on a Friday and received it on Monday. Their shipping is very fast if they have it in stock. Jeff's customer service is great too. Thanks Jeff!

Thanks, Tommy, I am really still a novice compared to many of these folks.
And thanks for the update Landman, I am not overly concerned because I figured there would be a wait, certainly if not in stock, my Strat is mink also.
Steve, I usually wear a 7, if for some reason my Stetsonian doesn't come, may consider yours.

Hi gang sorry I have not been looking here much, it has been a crazy holiday season. So here is the deal. We ordered more hats then were preordered. Then we sold most of those after we cut off the presale and before the hats came in. As for the Strats the mink has not been made yet as far as I know and we have not been given a firm date as to when they will be. Matt is riding rough shot on these hats and I think you can see the quality. Stetson closed this past Friday and will not reopen util after Jan 1. They will have a lot of back orders to fill and all of us will be placing restock orders from the Holidays and on top of that Summer straw will start shipping for late February. It's going to be crazy in Garland TX. So that is why the extra wait time. What I have right now in stock is Stetsonian tawny 7 1/4 (2) and 7 1/2 (1) and Stratoliner Cornhill 7 3/8 (1). We are very pleased with the hats and the support the Louge has shown for them. Thank You. Also on the new Hat from Stetson front we have instock and ready to ship the new foldable Runabout in Walnut, Caribou and Sage sized S, M, L, XL.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year

Jeff
