On the Block - First self made attempt....

I got a block, flange and stand from Walt Bennett recently. AB hats.com

Tonight I blocked my first crown. Set up with a 6 inch crown and looking toward a brim hopefully about 2 and 1/2 inch.

The block is close to that of the old #52 block. More to come....

I was thinking the same on skills and patience....why not make my own.

All I can say is I can't wait to get her done and put a crease in that big ole crown.

The block, flange, flange stand and shipping, if memory serves me correctly....the cost was about $345.00 that included shipping. that is a big block 24-3/4'' and the flange is 2-3/4''.

I had a goove put into the crown but my understanding was that it did not need it, I also had the block cut at 6 1/2 inches; so that groove, with the set up under the crown that groove falls below the flange and the crown is 6 inches from brim break to crown top. Which I can lesses if I want more brim.
