Restoring tube radios and old time broadcasts

Greetings fellow Fedoras,

I've recently restored a 1938 Philco and have a 1936 Zenith console I'm working on.

Does anyone know a source for old time radio broadcasts? My idea is to use a signal generator to transmit old time radio through my apartment so that I can tune in with the tube radios, but I need to find suitable material.

I do have WW2 speaches and World Service news, along with some Fireside Chats, but haven't found any good musical source.

The main legitimate source is http://www.radiospirits.com -- they obtain broadcast rights and licenses to reissue vintage programs from the copyright owners of the various programs, and put out some nice CD packages. (In the interest of full disclosure, I should add that I write the liner-notes booklets for many of these sets!)

I can recommend Radio Spirits. I've ordered from them for years.
Plus, if your order is over $30 you can get a 2011 old time radio calendar with photos and important dates in radio. I still have last years. It's full size and pretty cool.

Thanks, had no idea there were so many available. It's also great that you do the liners, it's rare these days for someone to be able to work with something they obviously enjoy

If you go to Big Band Jump online they play swing and big band. This site also gives you a list of radio stations that play swing, and big band across the country along with the times the showes air.

If you have internet and it is fast enough for internet radio, you can do this.
I do it every day, it plays on whatever old radio I pick via my computer to my AMT 3000 Transmitter to my radios.
It works real well for me. I am listening to OTR as I type over my 1928 Atwater-Kent.

Seriously though, I had thought of that, but then I'd have to have my PC on whenever I wanted the radio on. I've found one or two shows that I like from the links people sent me, but I'm starting to think I'll have to go the PC route anyway.

I've been listening to Pandora online radio. It allows you to create a "channel" with the type of music you like. I have a " Glen Miller" channel and and it plays all kinds of great classic music. Also has an app for smart phones so you can take classic tunes with you anywhere. Kind of strange I know, 40s music on a smart phone.

Ya, I knew you had some kind of internet, but I just knew when I had dial-up before, it was in no way fast enough for radio (if so, them I am really sorry) and I thought this may be your problem. I guess your statement "Nothing in my neck of the woods" was my point. If you have any internet I know, there is no in "my neck of the woods" as the internet = world wide web. I have never seen anyone yet more "out-there" then me as I live in a forest of pine and aspen trees and miles from any town. Yet I still have my vintage radios and speedy enough internet. But in all fairness, my internet cost is more then TV, but TV has very little for me too. Just my 2¢

If you google "live 365" they list a big number of online radio stations.
Click on the word "genre" and a huge list comes up to investigate various stations.

If you go to http://www.classiccinemaonline.com/ they have OTR programs on there as well. I saw a bunch of comedy shows on there as well as Dragnet, Gunsmoke, and other classics. I just listened to an episode of Dragent while I was reviewing reports at work.

Pandora and Slacker are similar, but Pandora is a bit more sophisticated. I like to call up Live 365 on the computer now and then too.
