Exactly, they won't even deign to acknowledge her existence - it's the "aren't you done yet" look-away look, I grew up being the victim of that look many times. My dad believe in motivation through mild disdain.

Whenever I ran out the door to escape a spanking, my mom
would give me the “look”.
She knew that sooner or later I had to come back inside.
My grandmother and dad would forget about it.

But not my mom!
