According to the caption:

“ A motorist stops to get directions from a state trooper in New Mexico, Route 66 on the border to Arizona...”

(There’s comments regarding whether that’s a state trooper or a gas station attendant giving directions)

Found on the web under “colorized” photos.

I didn't see that it was "Route 66." Okay, then, this would probably be somewhere west of Gallup.

The original caption only mentions “Route”
and makes reference to a “state trooper”.
LizzieMaine added information specific
to this photo citing the license plate to
a specific department.
If possible, I try to provide info if given
by the original poster, many times the
photos give scant or no details.
But I like to go on the “search engine”
to find out more and share here on the
Lounge.

In the first photo, the one remaining pump looks quite modern, I certainly remember them. Round about 1970's maybe. In the second photo the drum with the round top the fellow is leaning on probably contains a couple of barrels. One would be engine oil, operated by a hand pump. The other might be hydraulic fluid, or even a second engine oil barrel.

Footnote:
All the missions originally were tiled with brilliant colors when first constructed in the 1700s
San-Antonio-Missions-National-Historical-Park.jpg

The arrow points to what's left of the tiles. I grew up with the missions looking like this.
I just can't picture them all bright and colorful.Too gaudy for my taste if they were to restore them
to original facade.

I own a Ford Panel similar to this.
With the small art-deco rear view mirror and tiny rear windows.
This truck can be very challenging when it comes to driving in traffic today.
Impossible to see behind you or the traffic light signals on top.
My uncle related that back then, top speed was 35 mph. The traffic signals if they were available, were on the side corners of the streets, not hanging above like today.
And folks used the horn without the fear of being attacked by raging drivers.
