Hi All,

I'm wondering if somebody could date and ID this old Barbour jacket.

I might answer one of my own questions.
Based on the label this jacket is from 1954-58 time period:

The one that is linked from Ebay is a relatively "new" jacket made after 1987.

It looks in remarkable condition for something that old. I used to buy these for average price of £3 at boot fairs and sell them for £15, now you can't get them for less than £50 and tatty ones at that.
Old Barbours are usually a bit cheaper than Belstaffs but roughly the same design. A bit like Lewis Leathers and Highwayman jackets(Non Aero Highwayman).
This would look great worn by a Vincent rider, not quite the cafffe racer look though.
I had a jacket like this, bought from a car boot sale for £2(nobody wanted them back in the 1990s). It had the lower pockets removed as the seller told me he wore it in the ISDT in the 1960s(International Six Day Trial) I just bought it for the zip, removed said zip and binned the jacket.
I just wished I had asked him who he was, could have been someone famous and ridden with Steve McQueen in the same event:(

It's definately an international motocycle jacket, Barbour are still making them today & I believe this particular model will be celebrating it's 80th birthday this year.
You're in good company though, here's Mr. Cool himself wearing one in Spain 1964..

It appears that parts of the torso and part of one cargo pocket are made from a different material, or are unwaxed. It's not just a trick of the light; I've seen enough photos of jackets to see there's definitely a difference. Can the original poster comment?

There seem to be a few seam lines that I've never seen on this model of jacket, the seam running down a third of a way across the slanted pocket and also the one horizontal across the front of jacket, from the photos its on one side and not the other? I could only guess its perhaps a jacket thats been quite heavily repaired at some point given that and the good condition.

DD is right, an odd combination of waxed and non waxed looking parts. Left shoulder, both sleeves, parts of various pockets, and the belt appear waxed and aged, but the majority of the main body is completely different, and look brand new. Never seen one quite like that before.

Well spotted, it does indeed look like it has had a serious overhaul. Barbour does offer a very good repair service.
