Okay to wear matching patterned tie and suspenders?

I am mostly color blind and struggle with matching my clothes, suits and such. I prefer patterns, and "random patterns", with colors.

I know this sounds odd but I see most colors, but I can't pick out shades of similar colors. What i mean is, I see blue, but if you put light blue, light green, and gray 20' apart, I may or may not be able to tell which is which. I can pick out reds and blues from one another.

Here is the question; Is it okay to wear matching suspenders and ties that are multi-colored? It's the only real way I can keep them together.

I tend to avoid matching things too exactly; I just think it looks too contrived.

That said, I generally don't pay much attention at all to coordinating my suspenders with anything else I wear. I almost never take my jacket off, so who's gonna see them?

I think I would avoid matching tie exactly with suspenders, and tie exactly with handkerchief.

Perhaps you can have a friend help organize your things by color, so that you don't have to worry so much if you've inadvertently chosen mismatched colors? Blue over here, brown over there.

I have to agree with Orgetorix, looks too contrived.

Don't give up on yourself. No one just wakes up and knows how to match and contrast everthing. Get some direction from someone you can trust or other Lounge members and practice putting things together. Before you know it you'll look like a pro.

Good Luck!

Ummmm, can't see colors very well.................. It's not a question of matching them, it's a question of being able to distinguish them. I can see red from blue. But not blue and blue, or blue and green, gray and blue or green, Black or dark blue, or even pink and orange. See the dilemma?

Which means I can grab a pink tie, and orange shirt, and "coral" suspenders and think they are the SAME color. Coral by the way is NOT a color!

I was hoping everyone would say "Sure, no problem!" I guess if I'm going to wear suspenders, I'll choose black or brown. At least I know which is not black.

Complimentary, rather than matching. Most of my suspenders are rather muted in tone, I have one pair of dark greem patterned silk, but the rest are dull solids. But I would think that if you wear a patterned tie of a certain color, solid suspenders of the same color could be cool.
I think the same principle applies that governs wearing a matching tie and pocket square. It's considered a serious fashion faux pas.

And therein lies the rub for me. I can see the matching patterns, but not the colors. That's what brought me to this question.

Incidentally, my ties and handkerchiefs have to match as well. I usually by them in sets. Now you have me rethinking that. I guess I'll have to stop wearing the pocket squares too.:eusa_doh:

I understand your problem frijoli. You cannot distinguish the same (or similar) colors enough to compliment each other.

Try the "less is more" style. Keep the suspenders dark enough to go with anything. Skip the pocket squares or try white.
If you already have matching tie/hanky sets then wear it.

Can we really argue that matching sets are any more gaudy (maybe), contrived(nope!),
than complimentary colors/patterns? The issue strikes me as more subjective than not.
