Oil Cleansing Method

After seeing mention of this in the Cold Cream thread, I was curious to see who else has had luck with this method?

I've been doing it for about 2 weeks now and have had some really good results. Since I'm prone to having somewhat "cranky" combo skin, I skipped the EVOO and tried a mix of grapeseed oil with a few drops of castor oil instead. So far so good :D

Also - if you are a OCM gal, how do the Shu Uemura cleansing oils compare to the homemade version?

DHC makes a very good deep cleansing oil that's wonderful. It'll remove all traces of makeup and rinses completely clean with water.

OCM works great for me, but only when my skin needs it. It works great on blackheads and gives the face a lovely glow.

In winter and dry conditions, I use olive oil with a little bit of castor oil and a drop or two of lavender. If my skin isn't dry, I substitute the olive oil with grapeseed oil. I'll also switch the lavender with tea tree oil every now and then for effectiveness.

I used the DHC cleansing oil before I found that Pond's works better for me. If I had qualms about mineral oil, I'd defintely go back to it. It's more expensive than I like (which is why I'm glad the Ponds works for me) but it's not terrible.

I love oil cleansing, it has made a big difference. I haven't washed/cleansed my face with anything else in ages & wish I hadn't spent all those years trying to dry my skin out with soaps.

It's amazing how much my skin has changed in 2 weeks. I thought I was getting great results with the cold cream, but there has been a definite improvement in the size/clarity of my pores from the grapeseed oil.

i need to get back into it, but when i was doing OCM i loved it. i liked how i could start out with the basic formula and then adjust it slightly for my skin's needs.

Gluegungeisha, what make and color of lipstick are you wearing in your avatar? It looks fabulous on you! Does it come completely off with the oil cleansing method?

I've been trying cleansing with oil for the last few days. I love how it takes all my makeup off, but I am not seeing this reported effect on backheads. I even read ladies saying the little plugs of dirt came out of their noses, which I was looking forward to, but it hasn't happened!

I'm using castor oil mixed with jojoba as my skin is very very greasy so was scared to use EVOO. I'm then massaging it for a short while and using a hot flannel to remove. Am I doing anything wrong? Any way to improve my method? Thanks ladies!

Ok I need to know what you guys are talking about. I have kinda bad skin and if there is anything I can try to improve it I want to try it.

So what are the products and the process?

Incidentally, I purchased and used Dr. Hauschka's oil cleanser and it didn't do anything for me, except make me feel a little more oily and not particularly clean.

What exact method do people use?

Yes, I am asking myself the same question. And also what products/oil types and or additives (such as essential oils) you're using.

Indeed! Questions abound! Was there a website you found that turned you on to the method and explained how to do it? What are you supposed to do? Details! :D

**Edit** I just googled and got this page for starters http://www.moogoo.com.au/category13_1.htm

Great detailed thread, the first post is in depth

And a thread that started on a different forum as a result of the above thread

Here's what I've been doing:

I picked up a little glass bottle at Cost Plus, and purchased all of my oils at Whole Foods.

I sterlized the bottle and filled it halfway with Grapeseed Oil (since I have combo skin that prone to oiliness)
I then added:
1/4 Castor Oil
1/8 EVOO
1/8 Jojoba Oil

After I get out of the shower I rub the oil into my skin for about 2 minutes. Then I tissue off just a bit, and steam my face with a hot washcloth. After steaming, I rub the oil in a bit more, then wipe with the washcloth.

I did find that using too much castor oil in the mix dried my skin out and too much EVOO made it feel heavy. It's just a matter of finding the mix that works the best for your skin's needs.

What qualities do different types of oils have? For example, ones that are better for combo skin, oily skin, dry skin, etc.

The link that GoldLeaf posted from the long hair community is really informative, and has many different mixtures listed by their users.

What I do know is that Grapeseed and Jojoba are the lighter oils that probably work best on oily/combo skin. I started out with 50/50 grapeseed and castor oil, and that dried my skin out within a few days. I gradually used less and less castor oil until I was using pure grapeseed. After about a week of that, i noticed some dry spots, so I would moisturize with bit of jojoba oil.

Last weekend on a whim, I mixed my current batch and it seems to be just right. That may or may not change as my skin adjusts to it. It is very much a process of elimintation when creating a mix.

I've avoided using any essential oils as of yet, since I'm still perfecting the balance of oils. Once I've got that nailed, I'll introduce some EO's
