Oh the Stigma with wearing seamed fully fashioned stockings!

Hey, all,

I'm new here. Has anyone tried the HUE pantyhose line at Macy's? They aren't stockings, of course, but they offer the fishnet and backseam designs. So far, I've tried the fishnets. I recently purchased the backseams and have yet to wear them. Hope the seams stay put.

Talk about wardrobe malfunctions! I was walking to my internship last Friday when one of my stockings started to fall down. I thought it would just settle around the bottom of my thigh and my skirt would hide it, but no. The stocking bunched around my knee. I half-ran down the street, attempting to cover the now wrinkly leg with my big purse. The stocking suddenly fell to my ankle, right there in traffic! I had to run behind a bush and pull it up, but the darned thing wouldn't stay. It fell again when I walked two feet. I ducked behind a restaurant to yank it up. When I finally made it to my workplace, the stocking had a run. I just took them both off in the bathroom and threw them away.

Moral of the story: Buy the right size. Go by height, not weight, on the back of the stocking package.

lindylady--i bought some backseamed Hue's and the natural colored ones suck. you can't even tell there is a back seam because they are too sheer/natural. I suggest the black ones maybe... I haven't tried those but I assume they'd be better because they're still sheer, and the seam is black.

This exact thing happened to me yesterday while wearing hold ups. One lost its hold on my walk home! I need a garter so badly, and real stockings. I had to hold it up all the way home because my legs were just far too hairy to take them off! That's a lesson to me about upkeep of hair removal (and cheap rubbish stockings)!!

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to wear those back seam stockings to a dance :eusa_doh: . You saved me from an evening of embarrassment!

I have two pairs of backseamed pantyhose from Victoria's Secret. They aren't stockings but...for pantyhose they are very comfortable and they have a nice silky feel to them. The seams have always stayed put for me. They can be a touch pricey but the two pair I have, lasted several years before they ran, which I noticed this past weekend....guess I have to go shopping :)

NO way! At the V.S. I went to, they had seamed stockings, but no seamed hose. (Do like the stockings though. And they were on sale for $5.00!!!)

lol This made me laugh!

I haven't had any bad experiences, but I do think that men probably view them as "sexy" kind of like fishnets. I am the type of person that would whirl around and loudly say, "May I help you?" in a terse voice, but I realize that is not everyone's style. WWKHD? "What would Katherine Hepburn do?" in said situation? I think she'd have a witty and smart retort to put said perv in his place.

I agree you have to be careful you don't expose anything while wearing these. I wouldn't wear them if I were going out alone at night unless it were to a vintage event. If it makes you feel uncomfortable, stick with non-seamed.

i am just thinking that a man who notices a woman's legs and shows his appreciation is not a perv. so a man oogles, that is the nature of the beast and is just the way it is. we have forgotten how to flirt and have fun with our looks i think.

now if this same guy turns into a stalker that is a beast of a different stripe.

it must be the age difference but i simply can't image going back to the uncomfortable feeling of a garter belt and or a girdle. oh i know i will have to if i want to truly look vintage, but sheesh, doens't someone make control top pantyhose with seams!?

Interesting--I always find pantyhose to be more uncomfortable than to wear a garter belt or girdle, but to each his own. :)

I do believe they make control top pantyhose with seams--have you tried looking at Macy's? And I believe Spanx makes a version of fishnets with acontrol top.

That's funny! I've never been able to find the stockings there!!!! I think I got one of them while I was home visiting my mom in San Jose (just a wee bit south of you, in fact :eek:fftopic: I got engaged in SF at the end of Pier 39 :) ) and the other pair I think I got when I lived in SoCal. It's hit or miss though..I'll have to go see what we have here in TN....

Women have to be careful these days...

Its a sad state of modern society when a person can't harmlessly flirt with a stranger without wondering what their intentions truly are. Recent news stories speak of women who end up murdered usually because they let their guard down around a stranger.

The reason I started this thread was because of the uncomfortable feeling I got from this man in the store and all seemingly because I was wearing vintage stockings. I firmly believe that women have an "intuition" about people and mine has kept me safe thus far. I've had men oogle at me before, but this time was different. The guy gave me "the creeps". We never spoke, but there was just a sense of uncomfortableness that I can't exactly put into words.

I hate to admit it, but its just not that safe, innocent world that I grew up in over 40 years ago. I love wearing vintage/vintage-inspired clothes, but when I wear my seamed stockings in public, I'll have my hubby as an escort!

(My hubby just loves it when I wear my vintage clothes--I wear them almost daily. I think he likes me dressing the part and I know he especially appreciates the garters & stockings--seamed or unseamed!)

Oh how sweet! I love Pier 39! Although it's a bit touristy for my taste, it's still fun to go sometimes. :)
That's so weird that I can't find the pantyhose, and you can't find the stockings. I haven't checked the stores downtown. (I work in a mall that's not in the downtown area...)
I'm going to go look online! :D

as i thought about this today i came to much the same conclusion. it WAS a much more innocent time 40 years ago - when i hitch-hiked from la to sf - with families and truckers.

you made good points and you have a wonderful hubby i think - colour me jealous!

Why would you ever want to wear pantyhose rather than a garter belt and stockings? Pantyhose constrict you around the most unflattering place possible! And there are plenty of garter belts that don't constrict, just hold up stockings...and those of us that like a little control can get girdles.

Hold-ups...worst of the 3. They NEVER stay up!

I agree about the hold ups--totally yucky. I tried them one time and it felt like they were cutting off the circulation to my legs!

I saw a gal downtown the other day wearing hold-up fishnets and very short shorts -- with the hold-ups held up by duct tape wound around her thighs. Now that's ingenuity.

I've always said that duct tape is a woman's friend, but I've never thought of it being fashionable! :)
