Now THIS is a smoking hat...

A Dobbs Twenty that showed up with way more moth damage than the seller indicated :( It makes a good smoking hat however - no need to smoke up a better lid.

Zouaves, it is close but they wore something like a soft fez with a tassle. There was a civil war hat like that tho.

I'm pretty sure every picture I've ever seen of a smoking cap (including those in this thread) shows them with a tassel. The one in question doesn't look like it ever had a tassel, as there isn't anyplace where it logically would have been attached. It definitely looks more like a bellhop's cap to me.

Most fezzes you see have tassels, but not all of them do. It stands to reason that not all smoking caps would necessarily have tassels either. But if it's a bellhop's cap, shouldn't it have a chin strap?
