Nice to see friend Dandy Wellington in that group, bottom row, brown derby with the plaid scarf. He leads a great vintage jazz band.

His tie is cool too.

dhermann, I bought 2 overcoats on ebay from the estate of the 6'-7" New Yorker (I think you said you may have been acquainted with) and he would be glad to know they are getting plenty of use, especially since they match my small collection of fedoras.

Brian was a fine gentleman, indeed.

He always said I reminded him of his father.

Most of the gents seem to be wearing the lids ironically. :(

....don't really know how you come to that conclusion. I don't consider myself a fashion aficionado, but I do know folks who run in those circles. A friend of mine (whom I'm visiting this weekend in NYC) is heavily immersed in the fashion world and has what is, I assure you, a very un-ironic love of hats. Hats have been seen pretty prominently on the runway for the past few years (so my fashion friends tell me). It's not surprising that the trend is spilling over into street fashion now, especially in New York. I see very little "hipster" irony about it.

My gut instinct tells me that most of them won't be wearing those hats in five years when the trend peters out. If you want to see real hat wearers in NY check out the Metro North train platforms in winter.

Ahh, the good ol' judging the book by its cover. Fantastic.

In any event, that wouldn't really make their hat wearing ironic. Not by the dictionary definition anyway. Supposing they're wearing hats to be trendy, it's the exact opposite of wearing them ironically.

What's wrong, don't you have anybody to argue with today?

Pardon me for interpreting the English langauge literally.

Or perhaps you were posting ironically?

As a social scientist, I merely believe that conclusions ought to be rational and fact based, rather than casual assumptions made by superficial observation.
