I walk (aim for at least 25 miles a week). I need to find my hand-weights and start using them again--I'd like to have nicer arms. I lost 30 pounds a few years ago (I was clinically overweight; this needed to be done) and haven't had a lot of trouble keeping most if it off. I bob up and down a little, but not enough to worry me. I guess that I watch what I eat to the extent that I try not to snack out of boredom instead of hunger, etc., but I've never had really poor nor really extravagant eating habits. The weight I lost I gained when I switched from a physically active job to a desk one, and was eating too much to keep myself awake in the evenings (note to self: Get more sleep). Once I stopped doing that, the problem was solved.

I finally decided my approach to this is the same as I would use for a dog. My dog (we'll pretend I have a dog) is adorable no matter what she looks like, right, simply because pets are adorable. If I didn't exercise her and fed her badly, everybody would agree that I wasn't treating her the way she needed me to, but they wouldn't think that made her less adorable--they would just be concerned about her health. Likewise, exercise and semi-watching what I eat are about my health, and whatever appearance is the end result is, by definition, the right appearance. What the right appearance is will change over time, but that's fine as long as I'm taking good enough care of myself to avoid avoidable problems.

That is a good idea, dear.
One thing to have in mind is not pushing yourself too hard. :)

Oh dear, I started taking some medication about a year ago. Whilst I new one of the side effects was weight gain...not being able to wear one of my favourite dresses has made me burst into tears. I guess it's time to make a change. :(

Stanley Doble passes along a suggestion that I've tried myself -- try your favorite fruit juice with club soda. A lot less sugar per serving than soda, but still fizzy and refreshing. And if sodium's an issue, there are sodium-free club sodas that work fine.

I'm a fiend for orange juice myself, and I'd drink it by the gallon if it didn't have so much fructose in it. Cutting it with soda water makes a real difference.
