Okay...forget the other two goofy guys, the one in the middle is me.

Currently, I'm stuck on an Air Force Base in Texas for the next 4 months and I've just a few bits of civilian clothing to wear, one of them my beloved '40s vintage gas station jacket that I'm wearing in this photo.

It's HOT here. It's also VERY sunny. I've got the deepest tan of my life as a result of many hours of marching and physical training.

I need something that'll go with my civvies (t-shirt, jeans, Converse All-Stars and the jacket) and keep the sun off of my face. A fedora's not totally out of the question, but price is an issue and I don't cut corners when it comes to fedoras.

So, suggestions? I've already got a gray fedora back home, and a gray newsboy.

Man, you should be able to get a nice light-colored Dobbs or Knox vintage fedora on ebay for ten bucks or so, if you search. Fifteen, certainly.

Go Organic!

Just joking!
How about going for a straw hat? I spent the winter learning about fur/felt hats (still got a lot more to learn), and now that the warm weather has arrived, I am checking out the straw hats. I am amazed at the variety of straw hats there are, in price, quality, styles, etc. They are light and you can find some really nice vented ones too.

I'd suggest a military cap, basic navy or black color... similar to a ball cap, but more square.... It'd look good with the jacket, as it reminds me of something a mechanic might wear :)

I agree with the straw idea

Maybe a narrow brim? Not super stingy, but maybe 2 to 2 1/2 inches. Might I suggest a milan straw. I just got one from millerhats.com that I like, and they have a bunch of styles and colors. Even gray!
