Now Forming! the Campaign Hat Corps

Heres’s an old BSA hat my dad found for me. Not sure exactly when it was made or by whom, but it’s in great shape.

Hot off the press, my second 1889 conversion hat is complete. I received the grosgrain ribbon from Britex yesterday afternoon, and finished the ribbon, bow, and brim stitching about an hour ago. Sewing the bow on was a challenge, but I think everything turned out OK. The brim stitching was a pleasure to do with the handcrank Singer, as before. Let me know what you think:

HI
My eBay 3X felt Resistol arrived this morning. The color is a little dark but it may fade lighter. During the period they may were probably inconsistent anyway.

I reformed to what best portrayed the SAW period. Holes were measured and cut for the grommets and test fit. Not certain if I'll go with the shiny brass and let them darken, on their own, try some gun blue or fit some black ones, then rub some of the finish off to simulate wear.

The brim will be trimmed to spec, three row stitching and 5/8" ribbon applied.

I'll be a stylin' Huckleberry Pierre'

Hi , On the 1898 campaign hat how far up on the crown are you locating the 1" brass screen vent. I can not find any specs.

Hello. You’re replying to a very old thread and asking a question about a post that is over a year old. Best to either PM the guy or at least use the “reply” feature at the end of his post so he’ll know you have responded. Otherwise, it’s a one on a hundred chance that the OP will ever see your question. Good luck.

My son, James, got me this new campaign hat for Fathers Day. It was a little tight, so today I finished up stretching it and then reshaping the brim. I'm looking forward to putting this hat to good use on many hiking and backpacking trips with both my sons. When they were little, we spent most of our free time hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking, or cross-country skiing. I intend to revisit those days with them, with a couple grandchildren thrown in for good measure, more and more. Life is too short to be "static."

Good to see this thread get some action. I need a Campaign Hat... This one is great looking on you Big Man!

Here is a fairly modern government issue OD fur felt model 1911 made by Stratton sometime in the late 60's I think. All the markings are on the back of the sweat and hard to read, impossible to photograph. Anyway the hat is in great shape with little wear. I tightened up the pinches "Army Style"......and I added the WW2 era enlisted hat device...

Here is pretty new production Stratton 1911. I did not touch the nice factory creases on this one, it is also OD but much brighter green hues than the darker brown hues of the other. Also a fur felt, this one came to me NOS and has the modern soft cloth filled sweat rather than the leather. I added the gold officers cords and really nice brown leather chin strap with brass fixtures. The chin strap I ordered from Stratton direct.....the ribbon work is noticeably differant from the older hat.

Here is an old wool 1911 that has seen and done a LOT!!!! I should know.....I put the wear on it! This has the machined officers cords....chin strap is ISP issue. Purchased this hat new at a surplus dealer......bottom and top are now two differant colors, and it has my sweat.....my horses sweat, and everything in between. No manufacturers tags left on this one....only a faded "campaign" lettered on the sweat....
