Laloo!!

Great rosetta stone for Stetson marketing back in the day. I had no idea Boss Raw Edge was a quality definition.

Thanks for posting these.

This is an EXTREMELY important article in the history of Stetson. I was unaware that the NO.1 quality was the cheapest grade for westerns that Stetson made. I was also unaware that the Boss Raw Edge was a quality designation. I thought it just had to do with the edge treatment of the hat. It appears that Nutria was held to a higher standard than the other two quality designations. Whats interesting is that beaver is not mentioned anywhere in that 1907 clipping. Just goes to show that even though Nutria isn't known to be the softest felt around, its most definitely one of the toughest, which I would imagine is very important to a cowboy......durability.

Thanks for posting this, Bill!!

Stetson duplication / reorder numbers

Not really an ad, but I thought it worked in this thread best. Interesting blurb from 1921 about the duplication numbers we see on the tags in Stetsons. Started in 1887.

<sigh> If only that still worked.

Yes, its sad to think of all the history and documentation lost. At one time they could have looked up those numbers and told you all of the hat specs. When we went to the hatco factory and saw a cabinet with old ledgers in the entry area, they told us that was about all of the old "books" that survived from Stetson. We asked what they were and were told they were just some old accounting ledgers.

Fantastic early ad... and from a company that is still in business today. How rare is that. About as rare as a 100 year old 5X Beaver. Has anyone seen a Stetson 3X or 5X soft hat from this era? That would be a very special find.

Thanks for sharing this, Bill.
