Nothing but Seamed Stockings

I think I'm going to order some of the 45 denier stockings from WKD for my birthday next week. I've looked EVERYWHERE for stockings that were 20+ and had yet to find anything. The only downside (besides the $47 price tag) is they only come in chocolate and black. Oh well, it's fall/winter, right?

Lenore- can you post about how these wear? I'm interested in them but I'm curious what you think about them before I'd order.

I haven't ordered those, but I do have the regular fully fashioned stockings and the 80 denier from them, which I like very much. They are very soft and comfy. I suppose the 45 denier would fall somewhere in between. I'll have to put those down on my wishlist. =)

Please excuse my intrusion into the Ladies territory. My wife sells seamed stockings mostly on Ebay. She has many, many pairs. Anyways if you are looking for fairly heavy seamed stockings, look for "Supphose" brand support seamed stockings. They are semi-opaque and true fully fashioned stockings. And will last forever. I will leave now. Thanks.

I can second that recommendation. The only thing with Supp-Hose to keep in mind is that you need to wear them with a proper girdle and not a garter belt -- the stockings are elastic enough that they'll pull the garter belt down your hips. They need a firm girdle to anchor them in place.

The only way they won't last forever is if you have an especially active cat in the house.

I just been told this on another forum

"It would appear that there is no longer ff nylons being produced in the United States, the company making the last having ceased production some time ago, and the machines are now laying idle."

So it is looking a little bleak for the USA ladies now having to buy them in from Europe now.

I am sorting out my accessories to wear with a 1950's-style dark blue (not quite navy) lace full-skirted 3/4 length dress for evening... I just wanted to ask about the colour of stockings.

Now I would love to wear some nude with black seam stockings, however I have a very vibrant tattoo on the front of one of my calves which unfortunately looks a little odd underneath nude stockings.. Do you think black and black seamed would be too dark?
I've tried to research as much as I can and from what I've read I *believe* it would be an evening-appropriate look, but I just wanted to get some opinions!

I'll be wearing black shoes to match my black belt as well, if that helps!

Do you have a 'smartphone'? Try each pair of stockings on with the shoes and skirt- snap a pic of each (yes, you have to contort a bit unless you have a full length mirror!) and then look at the pics...which do YOU like?
I've had to do this a few times when in doubt about shoes and a dress..sometimes I think it looks way better than it does so this way it gives me more of an objective view to see if it really does look as good as I think!

I had no idea they had all those in the 1940's. I wonder if ordinary women bought them, or just dancers and maybe a certain class of ladies? The 2 at the top are called show girl and stage door. "Eye catching" and "sure to be noticed" are two descriptive phrases used. I sure haven't seen any in my family photos.

These are from a run of the mill catalog. Novelty stockings were hugely popular. I'm sure the patriotic ones were big sellers.
