Spent the morning with Mike for my Birthday treat. Watched him build a sweat, stitching etc... Much to my surprise, he had my Baby Blue Duplex custom finished! He sent an email, must have missed it. This is the perfect hat for spring, on sunny and cool days. The light blue brim is Winchester bunny. He has pounced it to the quality of the finest beaver, great new process I understand. The crown is one of his better quality Cuenca bodies. The shark's gills are just a joy to behold, they are crisp and perfectly in line. This hat will be my signature lid for an upcoming Alaska cruise in June. Have to decide what to wear to the formal dinners on board???

Mike's price of $375 (starting price) for this duplex hat seems very fair.

After my initial surprise at the increase of his prices I quickly realized that Mike's hats are still a great value and worth every cent. I love that he's willing to experiment with styles. I'm resisting making an impulse buy, but that duplex hat checks all the boxes.

He has one in the showcase in brown tones (my size) that I'm kind of in love with too.

This lid looks incredible!!!! I love the duplex. I would be very interested in seeing a close up of the bunny felt to see how Mike pounced it....from your pics it looks like beaver, very impressive. You were able to watch him build a sweat, stiching etc in a single day??
I just picked a camel rabbit from Mike at the quality is stellar. To my eye I would be hard pressed to pick it out from a beaver. It is a slight long hair finish with a nice soft hand.

My wife likes the looks of the Duplex but doesn't see it as a versatile hat. I told her I'd wear it with my blue and white seersucker suit and she reminded me I wore that suit maybe three times last summer. I'm still contemplating the Duplex, but at least it got me to contact Mike and place an order for one of his Panama hats. Your earlier posting of the increase of the quality of his Panama hat bodies helped me to pull the trigger. He currently doesn't have a hat body in my size but I'll be on the list anyway.

Thanks for posting reviews and insights; it helps give us confidence to order from people we've never met.

His connection down in Cuenca is putting together a shipment I understand. Good stuff! I will wear that duplex with everything! Blue goes with green speedos right?

My wife is usually ambivalent about my hats, but when we go out together she vetos some of my hat/outfit combinations. She is much more stylish than I am. I dig that Duplex, but she might take some more convincing.

And that Duplex and speedo image will haunt my nightmares.

Don't let me see it! I'm in over my head already I don't need any more right now. Once you see one of Mike's hats you'll have to have it.

Sorry but don't get your hopes up on the brown one, it's mine. Mike made if for me a while back and since I don't wear it in the winter I let him put it on display so people can see what he can do.

Mike sez howdy! Took some of the latest hats down for show and tell and some stretching. Mike brought out my newest custom in it's raw form. He will have my Bone Lord's Hat done in the next week or so. So, I better get busy on Ebay to pay for it. We convinced a nice young man who came in to think about a custom, he wanted a green hat. Good kid, he should be a hat person from now on.

You must be in his fast-track program. I’m waiting for three from him, but I know better than to say anything. He’s backlogged because he’s good.

I’m looking forward to seeing that lords hat finished.

It is not that I'm on a fast track, more of a multi track. I always seem to have something in the pipeline. The Blue Duplex and this one being so close together comes from Mike putting my hat off to finish up other's hats for Christmas. Being a summer hat, I was in no hurry. These two just ended up being close together. Of course, I just had to order something new today.

I’m both sad and glad that I’m not close enough to just stop by. I’m not known for my self restraint.

Did Mike say anything about receiving his Panama hat bodies?
