I guesss they'll have to go back to starting fires under the fibreglass turtle like when I was a kid. Now that was a sport and a pastime!

I thought getting hurt was a part of being a kid. And dodge ball being exclusionary? All it did was give kids an introduction to how the world works. It's the same with the over-protective parents who take their kids to the doctor at the slightest sign of a cold. They never develop a proper immune system and spend the rest of their lives with colds and fevers.

Dude this is totally a re-run. The same thing made the news in another place no more than a year or so ago. The latest is that they are thinking that recess should be done away with all together. With the running and the falling and the throwing up already!

That black top needs to be replaced soft gentle felt. (if it is still called black top) the sand in the sandbox needs to be replaced with something that melts in your mouth. the tether balls need easily breakable string so no noe can hang themselves. marbles and jax need to be large enough so you cant choke on them. oh wait, then they would be big enough to hurt someone if you threw it. the ball wall needs airbags. and all children must now wear those sumo wrestling blow up suits before they can go out to play.

Oh come on now people. I think that kids can learn more in recess than in school. I don't care how much you know your book learning if you don't have the street smarts to apply it. And yes, injury is what growing up is all about! It toughens the kid up. Scrapes and all that jazz will heal eventually. I'm going to be that dad that lets his kid touch the hot stove. They'll learn faster and better that way. All these kids are going to grow up all awkward and with no memories.

"Hey Frank, rember playing tag as a kid?"
"No Phil, can't say I do. That wasn' allowed at our school."
"oh...um...well...didja get that thing I sent ya?"

Just wait, these parents will be blaming the schools when their kids are incapable of being sociable.

You know I heard this on the radio the other day about the tag and the recess thing. I have to say it annoyed the heck out of me. I mean for heavens sake how did we all survive our childhoods? I played tag, I had recess, heck I think I even ate dirt at some point and here I am, Alive, well, and perfectly adjusted (i think). I remember there was a kid once who cheated in handball and I called him on it. He pushed me and I punched him in the face. If I recall he's the one who got in trouble but not only were neither of us suspended but both our parents laughed and his asked him if he'd learned his lesson on cheating! Today we would have both likely been expelled. Sigh. I'll get off my soapbox, but I have to say, you can't shelter someone their whole lives. One day they'll trip and fall and it will hurt even more because no one ever warned them that it could happen. :rage:
kids will fight, fall, hurt and play. It's part of childhood. I mean jeez, recess was my favorite part of the day!

next they will be banning the wearing of stylish gentlemans hats on school campuses everywhere
MEH!
They have already started. "Indy McFly" from Club Obi-Wan said that he couldn't wear his Akubra Federation to school anymore because of the trend of gangs wearing fedoras.

And to the original topic, I grew up with perpetually scrapped knees and elbows. Said knees and elbows have permanent scars from all the roughhousing I used to do; and I turned out better than the emo brats with the litigation-happy parents. I'm having a hard time refraining from a rant about the all-wood playground equipment I grew up on before "safe" stuff replaced it.

Oh the safe stuff is 10 times worse. I can't even count how many times I've been shocked on that junk and carried my nephew off of it crying because of the shocks he's gotten. I'm still amazed any of us survived our childhoods. By all accounts we should all be dead
