Back then it was probably considered flamboyant to wear a purple tie and shirt with stripes like that. There are a few dandies like that whose style I really love, but wouldn't emulate myself.

Christopher Walken is stereotyped and stereotyped, but truly doesn't get enough credit for his range. Much like William Shatner, IMO.

The coat isn't really my thing. Seems like more of a status symbol than anything.

As the shirt and tie are lighter they are much easier to see in that clip and they do look flashy. The bright purple tie and the shirt with the extra wide stripes. It's the suit that is hard to see if it's really all that flashy. Looks to have double stripes but quite hard to actually see it.
