Ms Kitty, you can certainly dive on the barrier reef. There is great diving all around the cost. (and we have lots of it)

Mr Vim, Im sure you would be made more than welcome. :)

Last night shift of the month, but I'll be back on now and again when I get teh urge to stare bleary eyed at the screen... or until they stick me back on night shifts.

IT LIVES AGAIN!

The night owl thread lives again! I'm back on night shifts, and I'm staring at the screen bleary eyed and with that slight tingling of exhaustion all over yet again.

Is there anyone else up at this hour? Or is it morning already in your side of the world?

"It's a sin to go to bed on the same day as you get up" - Jimmy Walker, Mayor of NY, 1920's.

Yep, i'm a confirmed nightowl, always have been since i was a kid reading under the covers, when everyone else was asleep. Like many of you have said i tend to find it my most creative time of day, i'm alone with my thoughts, i seem to only be able to think with any kind of clarity at night, undisturbed by all the daytime shenanigans going on around me. Things seem to take on different shapes and forms and texture, (maybe that dimmer switch wasn't a good idea, or else i do need an early night)!! I think personally that i still get a little illicit thrill knowing i'm the only one awake, while everyone sleeps, like i did when i was a kid. I also seem to be able to do the most mundane household chores in the middle of the night which normally i would put off doing during the day, don't ask me why, they just seem to become slightly more fascinating?? I do however have to be up rather early in the morning, but i have perfected the art of the cat nap and my best friends are espresso, undereye concealer and an permanant air of insouciance!

I work rotating night shifts, and well I thought maybe there might be some other bleary eyed souls out there like myself who'd like to talk about the finer thoughts that amble across their brains in the wee hours of the morn, like so many zeppelins of a bygone era.

As you can tell, I'm already reaching critical mass.

I think it's interesting to consider that our thoughts are more "out there" when we're tired. I know my writing takes on more of a unqiue vibe on these lonley nights.

How 'bout it? Any other Owls out there? Where are you at, what are you doing and what rationale has you up so late?
I'm and "owl" I am either on here or on the TV, sometimes outdoors aswell for a hike/walk

bedtime is midnight or later, even if I have to get up at 6 or 7 for work. I can't help it, unless I've worn myself completely out after several days of 4 hours sleep.

Cinderella's hour or later, a very light sleeper, and awake by four bells
chimed by the parish church nearby. Or out all night.
My first cup of coffee is sipped at dawn while sitting in my car outside the office.
Cool mornings, hot java, and Glen Miller's Moonlight Serenade, the official night owl theme. :)

It is 2:30am here and I am awake; although against my wishes. I seem to have some sort of nerve injury which is preventing me from lying down. It woke me up yesterday morning, and I hoped at the time I had just slept on it wrong. I'm hoping with the aide of Advil and a heating pad, I won't be too much of a night owl much longer... :rage: [huh]

This thread just made me check the time again. It's currently 1:46 AM. I should get ready to log off. I actually wish I wasn't such a night owl, if for the sake of getting more sleep for what the next day will bring...

I'm a night owl. Why get up early and do something when you can sleep in and do it late at night? Now that I'm at university with some early lectures (10 o'clock in the morning, By George) I have to control it a little more. Which is rather hard lately, with lots of reading to do and an insane addiction to Starcraft II.

I would have to say, what is strange about me, during the day, I think and write sloppily and also can't think of anything to do, but during the night, I write cursive as if I have been for 90 years, very neat. I always think of things to do when I can't sleep at night, and I am fully aware of what I am doing and can do it better than in the day.

Why can't the night be bright, and the day be dark? [huh]
