for those newer chaps, this is the suit that officially inaugurated the "Holy Grail" FLounge franchise:

Crossed belt loops. Fabric covered buttons. "smiling"jacket pockets. Of course the front pleats …

Jeez...bells and whistles, thrills and frills - it's all there.

Are that crossed belt loops? The slanted front pockets on the jacket make for an interesting counterpoint to the lines of the lapels. And those rear pocket tabs look huge. That must be the most astonishing suit extravaganza I've come across so far. :eeek:

Belongs - or belonged - it to a lounger?

I remember this suit on ebay. It was custom made by a merchant tailor in 1936 for a young Polish-American swimmer. The only problem with it was the missing cloth-covered front button.

Yes, dove grey. but I don't remember the merchant tailor or the swimmer part.

I do remember, along with Marc C., helping the seller out in the eBay forums. She had no idea what she had.

I think it sold for something like $300

Yeah, the seller wrote about this in the auction description. I think the Polish swimming champ was her grandfather.

There was certainly a family connection, I remember that. It was long enough ago that my mind is hazy on specifics …

I had been thinking this was the home made "holy grail" suit, but that was a different, tweed, German one.
