I dont own a newsboy cap, but my great grandfather wore them in his younger years. It seems to fit him quite nicely.

He really resembles our own Paddy!

Probably already been mentioned in this thread, but in case it hasn't,
Hat People makes some wonderful Newsboy hats.
Just received my first from them last week, immediately ordered another.

They have different "cuts" of cap to choose from.;

Rather than "Small, Medium, Large" sizes they go by head circumference, and the caps have an adjustable elastic band tucked away in the lining.

I was looking for a linen cap for the summer. Thanks to this thread I found out about Zazu caps and I also found out Ralf Reynolds lives 3 blocks from my parents house. Today I drove over to his house and picked up my new linen cap and visited my parents too, anyway here it is...

My favorites

Quite late to this party, but back when I actually had a choice and selection available, the ones I gravitated toward were usually Jonathon Richards. Last time I was there, John Helmers in Portland still had a pretty good selection of them.

My absolute favorite, however, was a silky wool one from Italy. It has been at the bottom of the Big Hole River in Montana for two decades and I still mourn it. I don't know the name of the maker.

Pendleton used to make some, but they were never as common as the "flat top" caps. As far as I can tell they don't make them anymore.

I've also owned some of the cheap tourist trap ones and actually have nothing bad to say about them. They are fine for what they are and I use mine for working caps and they tend to last well enough.

I don't know what people are used to paying for these, but I pay more than I am willing to admit. The last Jonathon Richards I bought some years ago and which is my favorite of those I own, I purposely bought a size too large. I wanted more "flop" in it over time and knew that they would shrink. It's still on the largish size, but has the right amount of flop for what I wanted.

I remember some dumb school film from high school in which a Greek immigrant was very proud of the day he graduated from his fisherman's cap to a "real American" cap.

Hat People cap in linen:
The choice of cuts is nice; I think I'd probably do best in a medium or deep cut. I am slightly concerned about the lack of structure, though, as well as not having a snap in front. This does have the advantage of being able to ship directly to me, though (I think).[/list]
I realize your post is a month old now and you've probably made your decision, but I wanted to comment on the quality of Hat People's newsboy caps.

I'm not sure what you mean by "lack of structure", but I can assure you Hat People's caps are very well made. I ordered one of their full cut Herringbone (black, gray & white) caps months ago, and it quickly became one of my two favorite caps. Their sizing is, IMO, spot on, which makes their caps very comfortable, as does the cotton lining. I don't know about their linen, but the Pendleton Wool used in the construction of my cap is very soft and "moldable" to get the shape I like. I was concerned about the lack of a snap on the brim as well, but it hasn't been an issue for me; these caps hold their shape very well and, even without a snap, the front of my cap stays in place.

For the price, Hat People's newsboy caps are a real bargain IMO; I don't think you would be disappointed.

I love the Hat People hats, but I have to say I'm sorely disappointed in the linen cap I have from them. I can't get anything approximating an attractive shape into it. It develops creases in odd places and sticks up-- overall a failure for me so far. But their wool (I have 2) and corduroy hats (1) are great, especially considering the price. Pic of my favorite below, a deep cut in gray heather:

I haven't bought a cap from Hatpeople yet, but I hesitate on buying linen caps for the same reason as Splitcoil mentioned. I just bought a cap fom BWear and love it! I'll post pics soon. Even with the Texas heat, I'd rather wear a wool cap than linen.

Adding my $ .02 ....
I'm disappointed in my Hatpeople's linen regular cut. It seems to have no real shape and without a snap the crown doesn't stay aligned on the (flimsy) brim. I replaced it with a linen flatcap from Hannah Hats and I'm much happier with the Hannah. It fits well. I LOVE how they fold up. It's my daily driving cap. I now have two more tweed ones for the cooler weather (which is far away). To each their own but I prefer the structured flat cap style more.

I love the first photo. Did you plan the "voice bubble", or did it just happen?

Now, this is a cap! I have two linen Brixton caps but this one is definitely better! It's a good weight of brown herringbone wool, leather sweatband and satin lining. The visor has a wire inside so that you can shape it. I'll still eventually buy a Hatpeople cap but it'll be wool or corduroy.

Looks too good to pass up.
Got one on order myself. About how long a wait did you have?

About 5-6 days.
I had oredered some shoes off of ebay 3 days before and the box it came in looks like a shoebox. I thought it was my shoes but the box felt light. The cap was nice and protected in it with packing paper.
