Hmmm, Sand Mountain area. You probably have friends/relatives who know about odometers, bondo, and cleaning car titles. No offense meant, I have relatives from that area that individually know something about at least one of those three things. When I was teen I'd go the SM Auto Auctions with my friend and his dad. Loved raising hoods on dozens of cars and kicking lots of tires and seeing if the magnet would stick where the paint was just TOO good.
I agree with the others, there's something near to narcotics in these old (and new) lids. Just a bunch of junkies needing hat fixes hang out here. Luckily a lot of times just looking at others' hats will calm my brim tremors and crown bashing sweats and chills.
;)
I don't believe that the used car business is quite what it used to be on Sand Mountain. But there are always some good old boys trying to make a living at it.:eusa_doh: :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh:

I guess that golden era has ended. Persons who can ratchet odometers forward with a properly bent rigid wire with a rubber tip without removing the instrument cluster were obsoleted by digital displays.
My highly developed skill to discern true milage from pedal wear, seat track wear, and rear end backlash checked while car sitting with eng off in Park is no longer of value..

I'm a newbie, too, although I've been lurking for quite a while. I have to say, when I discovered the Lounge, I was relieved. I didn't realize until that point that I wasn't the only one with this awful addiction I can't seem to shake. The hats keep following me home...I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! :)

...now if only I hadn't thought to look for hats on eBay a couple weeks ago! I've already warned my secretary that if the boxes keep showing up at the office she's gonna have to change my password!

Welcome & WARNING!

Welcome to the forum sandmountains, prepare yourself to become a sartorial grownup and start practicing your responses for when people randomly compliment you for your lid.

But a warning...do not under any circumstance visit the "Art Fawcett Hall of Fame" thread...those of us that have entered have been cursed and doomed to collect more felt fedoras than a normal closet was ever designed to hold. Art has some sort of witchcraft over us and we can't seem to break the spell...

...for god's sake save your self!!!!!!!!

Why, oh why couldn't I have seen this warning before venturing over there a couple of days ago?? I've spent way too much time since then deciding what my first work of Art will be!

I had on the brown fedora below today and a pair of green slacks and a brown pullover shirt and I got my first compliment :)

An elderly lady came up to me and said "You look very nice! It's rare to see men your aged dressed so nicely." I told her thank you and it made my morning.

Another Newbie who just can't stop . . .

I also have been lurking for a few months and got bit badly! Ventured to the Panama Canal and Art's Hall of Fame and on vacation back in the States (I live in Mexico City) I am picking up my first VS Custom and a Montecristi that Art is reblocking and giving a ribbon treatment to. I also have a Panama Bob lower-end Montecristi that I got this year. PLEASE MAKE THEM STOP!

Thanks to everyone who posts here their expert commentary, wonderful pics and entertaining banter. It is certainly making my wallet lighter, but I am more the merrier for it, and looking (IMHO) better than ever!

Saludos!!!!
