It's paperback, but due out soon:

0786426020.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_V51947512_.jpg

William Powell, The Life & Films.

The only other I know of is Gentleman: The William Powell Story. Long out of print and $80+ if you can find it.

Wow, scotrace, thanks for the news! I've been searching for the other one for a few years now, but this should fit the bill nicely.

You're welcome!

I hope it's a good one. Do you gentlemen think it's just strange that there aren't more? You could build a small ranch house out of Hepburn, Taylor, Bogart, Gable, Brando books...

And we all know Powell is TOPS! :)

Unfortunately, Powell is not well known by the general public nor held in esteem by "critics". I rarely hear them cite his name when it comes to classic comedy or style.
What we need is an event like an auction or film retrospective to put him in the spotlight. William Powell needs to be placed in the Pantheon of great actors from the old days. A men's magazine needs to feature Powell and kickstart the pencil thin moustache look. :)

Something to put on my Christmas list.

I've always thought that William Powell deserved to be better remembered, and I hope that the release of the Thin Man Collection on DVD started something. There does seem to be some renewed interest in him.

Thanks for the info, I know what you mean, as I just got on the band wagon this year with William Powell (and Myrna Loy), I recall "Mr. Roberts" so many times as I'm a Henry Fonda fan, so the ships doctor (Powell) and his Scotch & Coke idea, I never knew it was Powell's last film role, he retired, lived a good life, I just wish I could grow a moustache like him :p

Scotch & Coke

That was a fun scene!

ditto on the moustache. :)

The scene got to me as well, every time I order a "scotch & coke" I think of Powell and the scene from Mr. Roberts, but I never did try his recipe for S&C:p

If I remember the scene correctly there was very little Scotch in the mix! lol
Jack Lemmon was hoping it would get the job done with that pretty nurse he was going to meet. ;)

Just like in My Man Godfrey, he is the "Forgotten Man."

I agree completely with this sentiment, only in today's super-cynical society, a gent sporting a pencil-thin moustache is more likely to be mistaken for John Waters. Sad but true.:(

Someone should ask John Waters exactly who influenced his dapper look. ;)

I am applauding with glee about this news! I love William Powell
and his life was super interesting just from the bits & pieces I have
picked up in other bios (Carole Lombard & Harlow).

Hope it's a good and honest profile of the man. I would love to
know more about him.

Thanks for the release alert!
