Hello all!

I'm new here. I volunteer at a Railroad musuem in California as a diesel mechanic and enjoy playing the part of a 1940s mechanic (overalls, long sleeve shirts, hat, dungaree jacket, etc.)

However, I'm new to suits. I'd like to have a 30s-40s suit that will look appropriate for the era and for going out to a bar for drinks. I'm fairly tall and thin in build and was wondering if anybody has any recomendations on getting a suit. I would think that with my size I would be best suited to a single breasted suit. I would like something that would go with a flat cap. Perhaps the whole "Irish Immigrant" look?

And if your ever in the Northern California / Reno, NV area, PM me and I'll arrange for a personal tour of the museum, locomotives, and maybe even swing you the chance to operate a locomotive.

Hello there. The Railroad Museum is probably my favorite place in Sacamento. It's truly spectacular. My two favorite exhibits is the St. Hyacinth pullman car and the Super Chief dining car. I love trains!!!! And can't even begin to tell you how much I would LOVE to operate a locomotive. PM me and well chat.

Bugsy, I'm actually with the museum in Portola (on Highway 70 between Oroville and Reno.) I tried to PM you but I wasn't allowed to. Perhaps in the spring I'll get you a cab ride/chance to operate a locomotive. We have about a mile of track you can run on and 5 or 6 locomotives dating from the 1940s through the mid 1950s to choose from.

PM facilities are only available once you make more than 15 posts.... you'll probavbly have discovered this by the time you read this one, though! ;) Welcome!

Hello Conductor and welcome "aboard" the lounge. For suits you could give e-bay a try or I would imagine that some of the old gold mining towns in the Sierra Nevada Foot Hills may have some interesting vintage clothing stores. I went on a tour of the Sierra Nevada Foot Hills via bicycle several years ago and I remember seeing some then but who knows now.

It's always good to have new members... especially those with train access.

First step toward getting a vintage wardrobe is admitting you have a problem and are wearing too many modern looking clothes. I'm glad you are here and decided to make the right choice.

If you know your size pretty well by measurements you can take a look at Ebay and hope something comes up that will fit the bill and wont be a fortune. you can also check out your local estate sales and vintage shops and Goodwill stores... they sometimes put out better goods that they hold in the back for higher pricing when the holidays come around.

Good hunting.
