I just got an e-mail from Standard & Strange about their newest offering:

https://standardandstrange.com/products/s-s-x-simmons-bilt-vanishing-point-horsehide-leather-jacket

For those who are unfamiliar with them, Standard & Strange is a cool little store in Oakland, CA that carries selvedge denim, boots, and other vintage inspired clothing. They have done a couple really nice engineer boot collaborations in the past with Wesco as well as Red Wing. As far as I know this is their first foray into the world of custom leather jackets.

I’d say a pretty successful foray El Marro.
Now that’s how you show a jacket!
Outstanding looking!

They also released a couple of other jackets at the same time, including a Horween veg-tanned tea core horsehide Type 3 that looks tempting.

Yes I agree completely Super. However, I do like the before and after stuff that they are doing with the natural veg tanned SBs. I saw Neil's jacket when he first got it as a test for this collaboration, and then just this fall, where he had it hanging in their window with some age on it. It looked like a fun process.

Hmmmm interesting design - it looks just like a zip sleeved, zip pocketed Highwayman in natural veg tanned leather but with two G1 style pockets and a G1 ‘action back’. Or is it a sort of hybrid Sheene/G1? I wonder where they got their inspiration from to morph all of those features?
Check out the links on post#14 below for my best guess.

Say what you will about SB, that is a good looking jacket, no question about it. As super noted the price is about $300 north of what you could expect to pay had you purchased this jacket without the retail store association. I do like the jacket though.

As @Superfluous and @ton312 have both stated over SB’s standard pricing. But just like the Vanson&Left Field I do quite like it. Just a matter of the higher price when the actual maker themselves could sell it for much cheaper. In any case it does look like a cool hybrid design and I really do like all the natural veg. tans coming out these days. One day I’ll grt my hands on one.

With such a slim fit I doubt the cinch belts would be needed? Also two internal chest pockets and an external breast and a welt chest pocket might look a little ‘lumpy’ when used and zippered?

It seems like SB are doing a lot of collaborations... Nigel Cabourn, Iron Heart, this one.

Ok we’re still not getting it from my above 2 posts. My questions are as follows and
putting the style of the jacket to one side:-
1. Had SB thought of using natural veg tanned leather which ages beautifully with exposure to the sun before they saw the Aero Epaulet collaboration?
2. Did they add insult to injury by sourcing this rare commodity from the same Italian Tannery used by Aero?

I don't think so to #1 but I'd say def no to number 2. The natural vic/CXL does not appear to be capable of attaining this degree of sunburn. I set two samples in my window ledge, for 3 months. Neither one showed any significant color change. Certainly not from raw flesh to orange, like the SB collab does.

If you read Epaulets full Instagram post including comments you’ll see that it’s neither CXL nor Vicenza in their Aero collaboration - it’s their own FQH from an Italian tannery called Comipel. They have always used this leather for their footwear. I suspect their stating this on their Instagram comments gave Aero’s competitors the lead they needed to source the leather?
