They copied the Leathertogs back design, but without the french seams:

Kql5ppb.jpg

These extra panels in the back add curvature and room and make the jacket super comfortable wihtout the need for gussets/action back.
It is IMO the best back design there is but it should really be done with french seams to look good.

Some measurements. Again, far too long for anyone of average height and under:

Hi Brian,

Here's the measurements for sizes M and L.

Size M-Back length-26", cross shoulder-17 5/8', sleeve length ( from shoulder)-25 5/8", pit to pit-21".

Size L-Back length-26', cross shoulder-18 5/8", sleeve length ( from shoulder)-26", pit to pit-22 1/2".

26 inch is long? I must be doing something wrong then. I understand for riding there's issues going longer, but for fashion at 6'0, I find 26 to be perfect length for me. Most of the aero jackets on Thurston Bros are 26+

The length could be more of an appearance thing based off the images Schott has on thier website.

there's usually no front drop on the perfecto style from Schott. So maybe people are used to seeing 24-25ish with a 1 or 2 inch drop. My Thedi for instance has a monster drop, I think 3 inches. I just double checked a bunch of my jackets and most are 25+. In fact, many of the ones I loved and ended up selling were because they were sub 25 and were just too short on me. Sorry I can't rock belt on belt.

Of course your height makes a big difference in all this. But it's not like 26 is some earth shattering number. My Commando I think is close to 28. It's a different look for sure. But sheesh, what's the point of having multiple jackets if they all cut the same?

Just to be clear, no way in hell I'd drop almost $1900 after taxes and all that on this. Money can be spent in way better places, that's for sure.

It's not out of whack long, but it's definitely longer than every single one of my mc jackets. I'm 5'11 and wear size 42.

The above jackets are actually the longest ones.

Good visual comparison. For how you like to wear your jackets, looks like just barely covering your belt line, you've found your range. No arguments from me there.

What i would argue is saying "26" is wrong. There's way too many factors. How tall you are? How that height is distributed i.e. torso/legs? How you prefer the length to hit?

For me personally, I like another inch to inch and half to completely cover belt with a little bit of overlap. Is that fashionably inacceptable??? I could care less to be honest. Of course using belt line for bench mark is tricky because then there are the different cut pants that go with that equation.

Saying 26 is not good is like saying everyone must wear size 10 shoes because that's the right size.

The Schott photos hit tht model where a 28' back lands on me. He must be short or incredibly short toroso'd. I'm of average height. 5'11" with a long torso.
@TooManyHatsOnlyOneHead you are right about TB. They do spec their stuff deliberately longer and I think to a fault. An Aero 30’s HB (with a 2” front drop) spec’d at their usual 26-26.5” ends up looking like a blazer from the front if you aren’t at be least 6’2”. The blunt cut styles are a bit more for giving. I spec’d a 27” back length on my second bootlegger. In retro spect I should’ve probably asked for 25” with a 2” front drop.

True... But to my eyes this is what too long looks like :

agreed, touching the back pocket (or mid butt area) is getting too close to a bit too far even for my tastes for this particular style. But I guess I have a little more leeway for what's acceptable range. This stuff isn't life or death for me so it's more about what feels right, what is comfortable, what's not going to make me self conscious, etc.

In this case I think the belt is hitting where your belt would normally hit and then with the extra material hanging below, there's a visual illusion going on there that doesn't help.

I think the shorter is better crowd is more vocal around here. I bought into it too for a short (pun and no pun why the heck not) while and then I caught myself in the mirror a couple times and was like WTF? I felt like I was role playing or something, and believe me, that takes a lot because I wear some pretty crazy things (fedora, shorts, flip flops and a leather jacket is pretty frequent).

End of day, wear what makes you happy. There's certainly extremes where it gets unnatural, in which case if people are looking for real opinions, I'm glad to share, otherwise, who really cares.

that is strange about that last shot. Your 27 sits a good inch above that Schott 26, and you're a couple inches shorter than the model. Maybe it's a posture thing? Pants sagging? IDK. That model is probably vegan and never seen a gym in his life, so I doubt he has the traps you do LOL

I've definitely tried on enough jackets to know the measurements don't tell the whole story, but back length should be a little more cut and dry. Or maybe not.

Exactly. Look at how it has to flair out underneath the belt to fit his hips and rear end. I'm a similar size as Marc, 5'10" 190-195lbs, also wearing a size 42 in pretty much most jackets. My 613H has a 23 1/8" back length and if I was to get this new jacket it would look absurd on me, flairing out on my hips and butt like a skirt.

So people over 6' with a longer torso might be able to pull it off, but as I said, anyone at or under average height would do better by passing on this.

Edit: I should also add that proportionally, a cross zip, Perfecto style jacket should never be long as it completely throws off the proportions of the jacket itself. Elongating it does not make a flattering jacket. There's a different argument to be said for a center zip jacket, which looks fine in different lengths, but when you're talking about a crosszip, I don't think they look good past a max 25" back length, regardless if they fit you or not.

Schott fits differently than other brands. Can't just rely on the numbers. Other American brands Medium is consistently 18" ish shoulders or bigger and at least 22" P2P or bigger. But Schott's 17" ish shoulder and 21" ish P2P will fit the same, mobility the same. That is how I remembered my last Schott. It's skin tight sleeved vests at first but movable. Very different. It's like Thedi's XL is only 45" circumference or 22.5" P2P. The equivalent sizing in other brands is at least 23.5" P2P or bigger. I currently don't have a Schott anymore but I will. Just not this halfass one. It is not very hard, just start selling the Japanese exclusives to ROW after they had a run with it first.
Ugh... All this talk makes me want to get the one star even more now.

And you're like 6'5" aren't you? :)
True. That's why I can have fun with the "short" jackets.
Of course, this shows very nicely that the statement that the jacket is too long at 26" is not very helpful without some additional information.
In the photo, however, it is definitely too long for the person wearing the jacket.
I find the length information deceptive in any case. As Ton wrote, the same length can vary depending on the manufacturer, as I have found with myself.
